***Official Ivybridge Overclock Thread***

it depends on the cpu

software overclocking usually applies way too much voltage,i tried easytune for 4.6ghz and it set 1.39v I can clock to 4.8ghz with 1.38v if I do it manually

if you can control the temps any voltage below 1.4v imo is acceptable, its just how much ghz you can manage ect or be comfortable with

edit: whatever you end up with it cant be no worse than your previous chip

Yep, always found software oc'ing to dish out way too much voltage. Asus ai suite 2 is a waste of hdd space tbh, fan expert is perhaps it's only redeeming feature.

Been trying to clock her up manually to 4.5ghz this evening, proving to be a bit of a nightmare. Need 1.2900 vcore just to make it into windows, crashes upon opening p95. 0x101, 0x124, 0xa and 0x7f codes prior to that just signing into windows. Ram at 1600mhz, 7-8-8-24 1T. 1.5v, 0.950 vccsa.

Vcore at 1.315 in bios lets p95 run, but core 1 is under no load.

Right clicking on the p95 icon in task bar shows all other cores/threads running but those for core 1.

Logical cores 3 and 4 aren't on display, they'll be hidden under all the other windows. It may be that that core requires more voltage at load than the other 3 and was terminated early by p95? Worth a check. That would also mean that the power delivery is having an easier time with only 3 of 4 cores loaded.

Upped voltage to 1.3200, still the same problem with core 1 in p95. Also bringing up task manager shows only 75% cpu usage.

Up until today id been running a quick windows based oc, (asus turbo v 4.2ghz). All cores loading evenly when testing with p95.

But on switching the rig on, it would freeze at the windows log on after typing the password. After a reset it would boot into windows normally.

Tried with ibt standard stress test? Reflashed the same bios just incase its sticking regarding core 1 not being stressed

1.3200 in bios, LLC on high, (fixed voltage at the mo). Strangely, after the above failed. Hit start on ibt again, (same standard setting) and it passed.

Temps of 70-79-74-73. Cpu fans at full speed of 1900 rpm. Had a quick blast in a game just now, no freezes or whea errors and temps only hitting 60-61-57-57, albeit with cpu fans at max. Gonna keep an eye out for whea errors in normal use.

My 3770k seems to be a bit of a junker -___-;

Won't go any higher than 4.4GHz on 1.3v (high llc, offset mode).
Temps seem pretty high too; I think my cooler might need a remount.

Hmm, maybe not a bad idea. Aside from stress tests, temps are pretty ok for normal use. Scratch the above, lot of whea errors and it froze in the middle of running 3dm 11. Seems ive got a bit of a bad un.

Upping voltage to 1.330 in bios passes 10 runs of ibt on standard settings, max temp of 82c. But still getting whea errors in games. Undecided on what to do with this chip, either sell it on and purchase another. Or delid it, but tbh the amount of voltage it needs is unbelievable so it might put anyone off buying it.

Is that at 4.5ghz? Most 3770k's I've seen seem good on voltages,no point in delidding it imo,you want one that can do 4.5ghz with 1.2-1.25v if you did wanna try another chip

I wonder if its down to sli? That it needs more cpu v? I'm only running one 7970,dunno what illuz is running

4.5ghz yep, illuz and i are both running wf gtx 670's in sli. The 3570k ran at the same vcore, (1.3200) with a single and then two cards. Been scouring the big auction site and that other selling site. Seen one on offer for sub £100.00, pretty tempted tbh. Though it does sound to good to be true.

True, contacted the seller to find out a bit more about it. In the ad it states it ran at 50c max under a h100i in occt, much lower than my current one at stock speed.

Purchased it, hopefully get lucky with this un. Maybe keep the current one and use it as the base for a rig to replace my old i7 930 setup.

Get the volts in her ;) Or keep it as a spare and hammer one of em infact hammer both until one dies!

Im still running 1.368 through mine on LLC very high so im 1.360 idle 1.368 under load which is the only thing keeping me stable at x47 sadly.Very hot too i ditched IBT as it wasnt picking up errors as fast as Chivalry Medieval Warfare was crashing and the temps seem to be rising too since i started running 2400 ram as well.

The damm thing is capable on a warm day of 95c under IBT yet P95 wont break 85C and i havent saw a game over 76C either.IBT is junk and sometime u just gotta suck it up and apply voltages.

I might need to get a spare off the Bay before they go EOL just incase this one doesnt last the 5 years i want.I CBA to delid though i think if i had the option i would as if i knocked 10C off my load temps i would be chuffed.I worry more about the temp than the actual voltage.
