Hmm what do you guys think of around 3-5c raise for 100mhz gain?

I was averaging around 65-71c on 4.5 now I'm always around 68-75c on 4.6Ghz. Should I drop it back down or leave it?

Push till it hits 80c i think thats what most ppl do tho make sure your using the right prime95 with avx thing tho as apparently thats the one u need to use.

Not had the chance to build my upgrade yet. Due to returning some ram i changed my mind about and got some other ram but went out of stock the day i got it, hopefully they are getting stock today and sending it out to me today. Also pretty sure i will be getting a 570 card as well so will be waiting for that then a 8 pin pci-e cable from corsair or failing that one from somewhere.

Im hoping i can do at least 4.4ghz easily if i get that i would be happy as then its like a sandy at 4.6.

This new build is costing me a lot more than i wanted to. Initially i set out for no more than £250 now its up to £318 if i get the gfx card then there goes another £130.

Just dunno if the 460 would be good enough for the 3570k or not as realistically id like a balanced system and the 570 would do that i feel. If i can sell the gfx card i have for £80 then the new gfx would only cost really £50 which isnt a bad upgrade in that regards tho it depends if my bro wants it as he is getting my old mb cpu and ram and cooler and he would be just using a 7800gs card with it if he didnt want the 460 but i think it would be good if he just got the card too then at least i know he could play most games on med to highish settings.

When I first had my 3570k clocked at 4.4Ghz it was fine with my games and my 1GB Gigabyte 460 GTX and I did not notice any issues at all when I played at 1920x1080.
Changing to a 670 GTX and, unless I ran some benchmarks, not much changed, apart from adding a bit more eye candy to the games settings.

Changing to 2560x1440 and my GTX 670 is now paying for itself.

For me going from a "good" GTX 460 to a 570 would not be much of an upgrade but more of a small incremental difference and I would find it difficult to justify that cost.

BTW - good luck with the memory order - you will be happy with it once it arrives.

Hi guys just thought I would post my experience with my 3570k
Got a 24/7 over clock of 4.5 @ 1.104v with good temps
Highest over clock of 5.2 @ 1.512

Pretty neat overclock for 4.5Ghz on stock volts. I can only get 4.5Ghz with 1.280v

1.512v ! What were the temps on IBT with that? You must have some serious water cooling for that?

@hank
temps for the 5.2 is crazy high (high 90s across the board) and never would be a 24/7 Overclock just wanted to see what top over clock for that chip was :-).

But have a nice stable 5Ghz @ 1.400v with Mid 60s to Low 70stemp I could run when crunching numbers

But in fairness my 4.5Ghz has more than enough power for my daily life :-)

As for cooling:
Rez. Koolance RP-452x2 latest version
Pump. Alpha cool VPP655 x2 set up in serial and at speed 2 for both
Rads. Swifttech MCR420QP x2 Fans. Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition x8 running @ 1000rpm GPU Block.
Koolance for a HD 5800
CPU Block. EK Supremacy 1155
TIM. Indigo Extreme Fluid. Distilled water
All wrapped up in a Caselabs TH10 case

Well got all my gear now to upgrade, now the fear is kicking in. You know the one where you think oh god i gotta take it apart and put the new stuff in do a format of the ssd and stick windows on again and set all that up then i gotta do hours and hours of overclock testing and then ill end up just watching anime and not game with it :p

So to recap.

Going from

q6600 @ 3.2ghz using a tuniq tower 120
gtx 460 1gb asus
4gb ddr 2 hyper x ram (nice ram too)
p5kc motherboard with custom bios for ahci support
corsair hx620 psu

Going to
i5 3570k
gigabyte z77 d3h (got the latest bios f18 i think on the usb drive incase i need it)
antec kuhler 620 with 2 gentle typoon 1850rpm fans i got and the antec fan will be front intake instead
gtx 570 phantom
corsair 8gb dd3 1600mhz 1.35 low volt ram in white (looks mint and will go nice with the mb white and blue look)

Same things used from old setup

Dvdrw liteon
Corsair hx620 psu
p160w case
hard drives 3 sata and 1 ssd

Lookin forward to trying it out on gta iv, bf3 (maybe) and star trek online. Main 3 games i play these days. Tho might just stick others on see how they go too.

To all those who have delidded and replaced the Intel thermal paste with liquid metal, how are you finding the temps with your overclocks? Is there still the same difference in temps from when you did it?

The TIM is not the best quility, but in fairness there not a huge drop in temp people wish for a drop yes and if you going for bleeding edge clock it could make all the diffrents before you hit the thermal throttle,

Replaced IHS paste good old lap and used indigo extream on top drop temps buy 6c across the board, but it was a hell of a lot of work,

Was going to try a naked die mount at some point see what happens :-).

Sadly due to die shrink and 3d gates there a hot little chip :'(
