quite tricky getting these processors totally stable

I thought I was, Prime seemed ok, temps low, Linx fine etc etc - yet video encoding failed 82% through

checked windows logs and I was getting all sorts of random WHEA errors:

"""""
A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Internal parity error
Processor ID: 0

The details view of this entry contains further information.
"""""

which I guess meant CPU was not totally stable - it was internally recoverable - but not stable

I have increase vcore and seeing what happens

btw - I've also noticed sometimes if you don't have enough Vcore LINX gives lower results than it should - perhaps its to do with internal error correction

I'd set a low vcore and 4.3 gig and was getting 97

upped to 4.4 gig at same vcore, and LINX not giving errors but was only scoring 91 ...

so you need to delve beneath the surface too !

More important is how well you clamp the cooler.

Don't be a scaredy cat thinking that you're going to crush your CPU .... Lots of pressure on the cpu please and your paste will be spread out uniformly along with a great contact with the heat sink.

Ok this is as far as my 'free' overclock goes, tested it for 2 hours on these settings, then went upto 4.2 and froze on bios screen aha scared the **** out of me so went straight back to this and running prime95 again, i'm not sure whether to test any further(i want to) just don;t want to do any lasting damage ^^

Progress slow as I'm still decorating the g/f flat, but I'm up to 4.3ghz stable on my 3570K. Default everything, just increased the multi. Looks like I got a decent CPU here.

I set the BCLK manually to 100.1 which seems to have cured the random freeze issue for now, though I'll reserve judgement there as it was very intermittent.

I managed 4.3 on stock settings. I'm running at stock again at the moment as don't need an overclock to drive my current cards. Will overclock as and when needed. Might up it to a nice even 4ghz just because...

I was fine at 4.4 on a 44 multiplyer on stock volts.

Now at 4.5 with 1.25v and llc @ level 3. Runs prime blend and small fft for hours and all good with gaming too so far. Got my samsung green pushing 2000mhz as well as per sig. Nice upgrade from my q6600 :)

not that good on temps , 12 hours prime small ffts @ 4.6ghz 1.208 vcore vdroop, max temp 90c..

I've been running Prime Blend with custom memory - set to 9000mb - I've over last few nights found its failed at 2-4 hour mark .. but never bothered to look at why - just saw a red worker ...

tonight I happened to notice this ... is this a overclock fail - or have I setup Prime95 wrong ? I've 16gb of RAM and 15gb of HDD space left on my SSD - so thought 9000mb custom would be fine ?

Help - Do I send it back and get a sandybridge instead!

Well look at it this way, if intel bring out a better/fixed version of IB in a few months, which will be easier to sell, a hot IB or a cool SB?;)

By the way, that is what I will be doing if they do, if they don't, I am still happy.

theres no issue with the heat really

if the CPU keels over under what you'd call normal overclocks (not silly volts, LN etc) its warrantied anyway - send it back and if new stepping available you'd get one as a replacement anyway

thats the whole point of K series processors
