***Official Ivybridge Overclock Thread***

just some1 speculating nothing else

"Right, you heard this prediction here first: Intel will backpedal on this decision now that this is out and make a new version of IB with either better TIM or a proper solder connection. They will then offer an optional recall of these processors soon after for the fixed versions."

Lots of talk about high temps in this thread.

I'm hopefully ordering my 3770k this weekend, and I want to overclock it. I don't want to go mad, 4.4~ would suit me fine. Do I need to be worried about getting it there?

4.2 works fine slightly above stock volts 1.130v but to go 4.4Ghz it requires 1.210v and the temps jump 20c, so I stay at 4.2Ghz. Think my antec 620 doesn't shift the heat well. I tried 1.3v and the temps instantly went above 100c on IBT.

Tried going back to the 4.8GHz I had stable around 1.21V previously.

Thought I had it, with around 1.21/1.22V, as got it through IBT very high, but failed Prime with BSOD.

Out of curiosity, what version of Prime are people using? Have read of problems iwth some builds, but can't find anything clear on which one was problematic, and which one is best...

Antec 620 push pull with a rice grain of artic silver 5.

how odd to be getting those temps? it maybe worth re seating the cooler and reapplying the compound?

personally i like to put the compound down and get a baggie of some sort or clingfilm and spread until there is a thin film covering the whole IHS?

maybe worth a go?

I dunno, I doubt it's the compound as it's currently maxxed out at 55c 100% folding for 24+ hours on 1.135 and idles at around 21-27c so think it has good connection. Just fails at the high temperature1.3v+. Not to mention the push fan is a cheapo 50p from fleajay.

lol

i suppose that is the gamble with these chips, i just sent back my venom voodoo to OCUK for two reasons 1) didnt think it would fit in my prodigy case, and 2) im not convinced it would sate my appetite to OC my 3770k and keep the temps down. I ended up getting an H80.

Currently sitting on 4.9GHz with 1.280/1.288V under heavy load, temps on small prime small fft's are hottest core 92.

This is after finding a good spot for my memory at 2000 10-10-10-2t.

Not sure it is worth de-lidding mine.

Sure, I'd hit 5GHz taking the IHS off, but meh. Got a 25% OC (on top of the stock turbo of 3.9GHz)

Happy enough with the temps and speed. At least I keep it's warranty this way.

Just a little more stability testing over the coming week, and run a couple benches to ensure I am getting the speed my clocks should provide.
