*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

You're looking at the raw source code - the whole lot needs to be compiled.

You need to find a download of XBMC which incorporates this patch - or wait.

How's things going with XBMC on the live TV front?

Has been working fine for me over the last few weeks.

Granted, I don't watch *much* Live TV, and I don't sit there all evening channel surfing - it does take a few seconds to change channel, so if you're a channel surfer, you might get frustrated, but then again, you're missing the point of a HTPC if you watch Live TV! ;)

ArgusTV is set up to record a few things, which it seems to be doing nicely.

Overscan/Underscan settings in CCC.

This is set on a per resolution and per refresh rate basis.

And it's a total pain in the backside! On a few occasions it's jumped back to enabling Underscan on a couple of resolution/refresh rate combinations, so I need to have open CCC and the default Windows resolution/refresh rate dialog, and go through each one individually and set the Underscan to 0%

If that's the case, it must be because the video I'm trying to play is 1280x720 at 23.98 fps. I cant figure out how to set that combination. the only 720p options are 50fps and 60fps.

??

In CCC, under My Digital Flat Panels -> HDTV Support, you'll want to add all the HDTV style resolutions/refresh rates to the display manager.

You'll then need to flick through 23Hz, 24Hz, 25Hz, 50Hz, 59Hz, 60Hz at your display resolution(s) and set the scaling on each of these individually.

Even then - occasionally, it'll flick back to being scaled! If anyone knows a way to completely disable this option, then I'll be very happy.

Mine is an HTPC, but I occasionally play games on it.

It's perfect - other than the stupid underscan that the AMD drivers insist on adding just because I'm using an HDMI cable. It was perfect when I was using VGA - but VGA is further away on the "input list" than the other HDMI devices going into the TV, so it's more effort to change inputs (I don't have an AV receiver yet with HDMI, but I'd still have similar issues by using HDMI)

Black bars at the top and bottom when watching a film is correct

This is because films are often at a wider aspect ratio (2.35:1 is common) compared to the 1.77:1 of a "widescreen" display.

You've got two options to make it "fill the screen" - neither of which are good.

Firstly - you can stretch it to fill the height - this makes everything stretched in the vertical plane, people become taller etc. This won't cut any of the picture off, but will distort everything. Circles won't be circles any more etc.

Secondly, you can "zoom" in on the image, which fills up the height, but you lose bits from the sides.

You're watching the films as they're designed to be watched, this is right - my opinion is to not screw with that!

Not sure if this will do the trick but have you tried:

HKLM/System/ControlSet001/Control/Video/{91357F10-E8FC-41DF-AB9F-FDA3D0E8698A}/0000/TVEnableOverscan = 0

and

HKLM/System/ControlSet001/Control/Video/{91357F10-E8FC-41DF-AB9F-FDA3D0E8698A}/0000/DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan = 0.

There were a couple of instances where TVEnableOverscan was set to 1, but it wasn't this in the end that solved it completely.

I did a search for "Underscan" throughout the entire registry, and there were a selection of keys which list each resolution/refresh rate combination, and on 1920x1080@60Hz, the Underscan setting was different to all the others.

On all the others, it was set to 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00, but on this particular one (which is what XBMC runs at on the menu) it was 01 00 00 00 08 00 00

I changed this, restarted again, and now no underscanning on the XBMC menu.

Will have to see how it goes long-term, but I also uninstalled CCC, so if it's something that CCC was doing, hopefully it won't come back. But I'll at least now know where to look at - so thanks very much for the pointer in the right direction.

Firstly, forget the official app, it's rubbish in comparison to Yatse.

Secondly, how are you configuring the Host within Yatse - are you using computer name, or IP address?

Android can have issues with resolving a computer name (ie it might not like "server"), but will connect fine using the IP address of 192.168.1.200

You can check whether XBMC is configured correctly by trying to connect to the IP/port combination in a web browser, it should give you a basic XBMC screen with a couple of options in the top right corner.

You've got the "Allow programs on other systems to control XBMC" option enabled in System -> Services -> Remote Control, as well as the "Allow control of XBMC via HTTP" option enabled in System -> Services -> Remote Control

You could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall to see if you get a connection.

You only need to forward ports if you're using your external IP address.

Can you try a different port number in XBMC - maybe 8080 is being used by another application? Try something like 8090

Yup, been using it for a few months, and have purchased the unlocker to support Tolriq, he's done a fantastic job with it.

I have it configured with 4 of my XBMC devices (server, living room, kitchen, bedroom) which share a central MySQL database, using the "shared database" option so that it only synchronises the data to Yatse once.

Nice and simple to use, the call notification plugin is great, so if my mobile or my GF's mobile rings when we're watching something, it'll show who's calling and pause the video/music, and automatically unpause it when the call ends.

When I last tried the official remote, it didn't work with XBMC 12, whereas Yatse does.

Yatse gives you so many more features and is updated much more regularly, even with stuff that you never realised you wanted or needed! ;)

Yatse is free for the majority of the functions, and well worth checking out in comparison to the official remote.

Yeah there is a YouTube add-on, not sure if it's in the official repository, or if you need to install either another repository or as a stand-alone add-on (download the repository/add-on installer as a .zip file and browse to it to install)

To follow on with what TJM said, if you have multiple sources (or you have separated these films out into folders), you can use Smart Playlists for this.

You'd create two Smart Playlists - one which contains only files in the \\server\Videos\Movies\Kids folder, and one that's got everything from \\server\Videos\Movies excluding the Kids folder - and you'd replace your existing "Movies" menu items with these two Smart Playlists.

I've had issues with stuff like the YouTube add-on downloading to an SMB location.

If your music is tagged correctly, the scrapers should automatically download art. Have you installed the Universal Artist Scraper and Universal Album Scraper from the relevant sections in the add-ons?

All I have to do is add a correctly tagged album to my library, and it'll pull down the artist details, album covers etc.
