*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

I still think it's likely that your Movies folder hasn't been set as containing Movies.

Go to Videos -> Files, find your Movies folder, press C and choose "Set content" or "Change content".

You'll only get this option if you've installed and enabled the correct scrapers - so check in Add-Ons that you've got Universal Movie Scraper enabled.

I'm still on Aeon Nox. It's the first skin I changed to when I started using XBMC, and it's now the "right" skin for me.

Everything else I've tried just seems odd!

Have you got the correct scrapers enabled in Add-Ons? Once you have confirmed you have, press "C" on the folder(s) you've added, you should then see the option to "Set Content".

You'll still need some form of scraper to get anything other than the pure files view you're currently getting.

There is a scraper called "Just Use The Filename" which, as the name implies, just uses the filename to create the necessary entries in the database so that the you get all the niceties and art that you'd get if it were "real" movies.

If the files can't be matched to a film using the configured scraper, there'll be no Movies shown.

There's a link on this page to download the JustUseTheFilename scraper.

Once this is installed (via Add-Ons -> Install from zip file), browse to Videos -> Files, and highlight your source folder, and press C to get up this menu:

Then, make sure that the correct scraper is selected from this screen:

You may then need to press C again and choose "Scan for new content"

Ah, not sure on that one I'm afraid! Usually you'd get the name at the bottom (above "2 minutes" in your screenshot) - do any of the other viewtypes do the same?

Yeah, Netflix seems to use Silverlight with DRM, and there aren't Linux-based stuff that works as reliably.

Personally, I think just using Windows gives more flexibility and you don't have to worry about the nuances of Linux - especially if you've got a spare Windows licence floating around.

If you're wanting to stream TV as it's being broadcast (ie anything that you'd otherwise watch on BBC, ITV, Sky1, Sky Sports etc), then strictly, you'll need a TV licence.

Please try to keep any discussion of this out of the thread, I do not want it deleted due to this kind of talk.

Sampsy, your audio settings are wrong.

Typically that you've said that you've got a device connected which is capable of decoding various audio formats - when it can't.

Switch off all of the audio formats that might be switched on.

Within XBMC, go to Settings -> System -> Audio output

There are a number of options - I can almost guarantee that one of the formats that are enabled will be causing the issue.

Take a screenshot, and I'll tell you what to try next.

That's what it is set to now, via the sound card. If you mean plain old DirectSound: Speakers which I presume would be via onboard sound then no I can't. Onboard sound isn't enabled and it isn't presented as an option.

My bad, I completely mis-read your photo!

Setting it to Analog, 2.0 with speakers is the usual trouble-shooting steps to do. Have you tried disabling the "Boost volume level on downmix" and "Output stereo to all speakers" options?

To confirm your setup, you have 2 speakers, plugged into the analogue output of your sound card (typically the green connector)?

The skin settings are stored in the "guisettings.xml" file, which is in %appdata%\XBMC\userdata

By deleting this file, you'll essentially reset all of your skin settings.

awesome, will give that a try, is that just for the current skin?

I've had to change skin to make it usable, so best to switch back to ACE and then delete the file?

It contains all the settings for every skin - so as you try out more skins, this file gets bigger and bigger, so this can sometimes also be a cause for XBMC appearing to slow down.

Right now I have the new server and backup server in place I want to do this PITA my sql so libraies sync around the house.

Are there any issues with domains?

I have added the backup server to the domain controller server and and created a user called XBMC in server 2012 with read access to all the media folders on the server.

The xbmc install will be on the Backup server running windows 8.1 with the actual media on the Domain controller server. Both are on 24/7

Are there any issues with running my sql and XBMC on a domain? And I take it the sql database does not need to run on the PC with the media on? I do not want to install XBMC on the domain controller running server 2012 R2 in the out house.

I want to install XBMC on the backup server in the study running windows 8.1 as this PC will replace my HTPC under the TV being used currently.

There shouldn't be any issues with the domain - so long as whatever user account is running on the XBMC machines have the right permissions to view the media.

MySQL can be run anywhere on the network, it doesn't need to be the same server as where the media is stored. So long as it's on 24/7, and all of the XBMC clients can see it.

I've just updated my XBMC to 12.3, but rather than the official release, I've just installed the Margro prebuild, which incorporates a few tweaks, most notably faster channel switching with LiveTV with ArgusTV as the backend.

Tuning the first channel still takes a few seconds, but subsequent channel changes are now almost instantaneous, rather than taking ~6 seconds, which would make it much better for anyone wanting to channel surf LiveTV (it's now quicker than the last time I used a Sky box!)

(I still think that anyone watching Live TV and channel surfing is using XBMC incorrectly... but that's just my opinion!)

The one thing that I find missing is the ability to create a Series Link from the front-end with Argus/XBMC

However, it's so easy to do via a web browser or mobile phone, that this is often easier than waiting until I'm back in front of the XBMC machine ;) It's usually someone saying "oh, did you see X" that will prompt me to set up a series link anyway, rather than watching an advert or browsing the EPG.

I wasn't planning on upgrading to 12.3, as the list of items "fixed" between 12.2 and 12.3 didn't seem relevant to me, but when I found the Margro prebuild, I thought I'd give it a punt!

No extra config required, just install over the top of 12.2, the installer is essentially identical to the vanilla installers.

Do you have your TV back-end on the same box as XBMC, or on a separate box? And what back-end are you using?

It should detect the drive, and offer it for use within XBMC.

For DVDs, it should be fine.

However, for Blu-Rays, you'll likely see no menus, and some discs may not even play, unless you use a 3rd party disc decryption software.
