**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Yep, just checked mine, flips back and forward just fine, switches seem of good quality too, you got unlucky there, selling mine on Ebay soon, hope the seller offers some money back as you suggested.

Using a Winwing Orion II dual throttle now, love it!
I saw a few people saying they had a quote from thrustmaster for £30 for a switch, couldn't buy direct from the online store.
I said that to the guy, I'd have to contact them, but he just gave me £30 refund. Bargain!

HI all can I have a bit more assistance with flight sim please?

Im getting the hang of using the in built ATC now, and have been researching waypoints and navigation. Today I flew from Birmingham to East Midlands via the EME waypoint and landed successfully.

But there are two things Im struggling with.

1. Taxiing. I get instructions from ground ATC giving me all the taxi ways, but I cant find a map to see where they are. Im aware there are third party maps, but these are a subscription service? How do I access basic taxi way maps within the sim (particularly within VR)?

2. IFR and ILS frequencies. On the approach to airports or VORs, how do I find the frequencies to tune to? Again Im aware of paid subscriptions for these things but I don't have this, how do I find out the frequencies from within the sim, again I play in VR.

How would I access that from within the SIM?

Sorry, I only skim-read your post. Missed that you're a VR user. I'm not and know nothing about it.

Which aircraft do you fly?

Tbh, a NaviGraph subscription would do everything you want/need. €9/month or €81/year. I have a Navigraph subscription and it's well worth it, I use the features all the time.

Most, if not all, 3rd party study level aircraft manufacturers will allow you to access NaviGraph charts via the aircraft's EFB/tablet.

This is what the charts look like on the FBW A20N tablet:

or light mode if you prefer:

Ah cool thanks, that looks good. The resolution I have to run at though doesn't let me read the screens very well in the cockpit, so I probably won't be able to see that kind of detail. Maybe one for future.

What do real pilots do regarding these charts and frequencies? Do they have a huge printed manual with them all in?

Have you done any flights without using VR? I get the feeling using VR could be restricting your level of immersion.

Yes, once apon a time, aircraft carried binders full of charts. All electronic on tablets these days. That said, when I'm flying real world (light aircraft), I'll print out whatever charts I need prior to the flight.

Yeah I tried the SIM using the monitor, it's way less immersive and way harder to control the plane. VR is, I would say, almost real. You should try it if you can.

The only downside to VR is you can't flip away to other screens etc, which actually should be more like real life. I don't want to memorise a thousand keyboard shortcuts, real pilots don't have that, I want to press buttons and move levers as if I'm really there.

Have you looked at Kneeboard apps?

Hi all!! I just installed and gave MSFS a go which was fun.

I used to play 2004 on saitek cyborg Evo and the stick works ok with new game, but I need to manually set up button profiles which is overhelming! I digress.

What's the modding community like for latest release? I want the twin otter and BN islander planes for realism really - any good starting points to make it more diverse and lifelike with liveries?

The boys just want to bomb around in jet fighters too...

Have a look at flightsim.to - plenty, mostly freeware, mods, liveries, aircraft, utilities, etc.

Blackbox simulations do a Trislander. Don't know what it's like, Blackbox don't have the best reputation.

Aerosoft did do a twin otter, but they withdrew it from sale a few months back.

Oh FFS. Now I want to buy a new joystick and throttle and a VR headset. I have no money.
Haha, I had a go on the air ambulance Heli sim.
Now I've upgraded PC, bought new joystick/quadrant and pedals.

That was a bad decision getting on that....lol

4k monitor would be nice too......no rodders.....no....
