*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Did you fight my zombie at the supermarket? if so, was I carrying an inventory full of stuff? also yeah it is pretty cool :) I got messages in my game saying Windle has been infected as is roaming the safe house, but I didn't see you... although granted I never went looking, wasn't really sure what it meant!

Yeah there was one of you outside the supermarket with a full backpack and another of you in the safe house but that one only had a mine. Supermarket one was the first one I came across, confused the hell out of me cos I had I hadn't died recently so took me a whole to twig it had you name. Cool game mechanic though, someone's going to run into a truck load of me's along the line lol!

Probably all in my game! will get zerged by a pack of Windle's when I come out the safe house.

What sort of cable is it? I'm more after a 3m cable.

It's a proprietary connector. There's a short half metre or so mains cable going into a small power brick then a thinner cable coming out of that. Both wires are hardwired into the power brick so I guess your only chance of an extension at the moment is a standard mains extension.

Can all games be played on the controller?

And is it possible to use the console without even needing your tv?

No and no. Only some games you can play on the controller alone, but others do need both screens - like ZombiU.

On another note for anyone else who is interested, I posted earlier in this thread (here) with some issues I was having with the console regularly locking up, being unable to play Mario and also unable to enter the settings menu. Powering the Wii U off for a minute or two, unplugging my wireless AP and then powering the console on again allowed me to get into settings. I then deleted my wireless connection settings and Mario worked immediately and I had no more lockups. Out of curiousity I reconnected to my wifi network and it's been fine since then.

I also had two more issues. One being overscan related but that was obviously a setting on my TV. The second was a bit weirder. I was playing on my PC monitor via HDMI with no problems but when I moved it to my TV I used the HDMI cable that was bundled with the old Xbox 360 Elites long ago. I was getting picture flickering, sound breaking up, etc. despite the cable working perfectly on the Xbox 360. I changed it for the cable bundled with my Wii U and it's been fine since. I can only assume that the MS HDMI cable was only HDMI 1.2 compliant (since that's all the Xbox 360 supports) and it wasn't good enough since the Wii U supports HDMI 1.4.

Think I've hit a game stopping glitch >.< sent to scan the two cctv junction boxes in/near the supermarket which I've done and then told to go back to the safe house for an explanation on the storage box which I did, but now it's sending me back to the supermarket to scan the second junction box which I've done  The waypoint tells me to go inside then when I'm in the waypoint tells me to go out?! As far as I know after the storage box you're supposed to defend the safe house, but that hasn't triggered :(

I ordered a bundle from Shopto.net this morning, I couldn't resist any longer. I have ordered the Wii U Zombie pack with Mario.

£374
That's expensive, i payed £385 with for the ZombieU pack + Mario + expedited delivery.

Yeah I think the developers at Shin'en have set out to use every effect and shader going on the Wii U and succeeded, it also runs at 60fps I believe.
If your into twin stick shooters like superstardust/Geometry wars etc you cant go wrong picking it up imo. :)
Might pick it up then, thanks. :)

Im quite liking how the controller automatically stops charging when its done.
Even my phone doesnt do that!

Shopto stuck about +£15 on all their bundles in the last week before release to cash in.

Can anyone see any reason to use the pants plastic stand over the charging stand when your playing the touch screen games like Pikmin?

So you dont bugger up the battery? :p

How do you adjust the brightness on the controller?
Cant see an option in the menu's nor on the controller itself?

After playing over the weekend I can happily say I'm impressed! my initial miss givings about the system have mostly proved false, the screen on the controller feels very responsive, looks good & more importantly integrates well into gameplay (at least on ZombieU).
ZombieU is also a pleasant surprise, it is a proper survival horror game each enemy you encounter feels like a threat, the atmosphere is brilliant, genuinely disturbing & London is captured very well with a grimy lived in feel that gives off a vibe of dread very well.
I do have a couple of negatives about the game, firstly the melee system is a little weak with one attack & a push away move your only two options in combat, also you only get access to one melee weapon, the cricket bat which seem like a missed opportunity to me, why not have the option to use others things like crow bars, a policemans truncheon or even just a good old chunk of wood instead you are just stuck with the cricket bat which does not take damage no mater how many zombie skulls it bashes in.
The other bad point for me is the weird filter they have used on the graphics, if you look at a light source especially you can see an effect that makes it look as if you are looking through a dirty perspex sheet I think is supposed to add to the grimy feel of the city but it just makes the graphics look worse then they actually are & I personally think it detracts rather then enhances from the experience.
Overall I'm impressed enough to say I'm keeping my Wii U, & I think that if the third party games that come out for the system really embrace the controller screen & integrate it into games in inventive ways the future looks bright for the system

I dont, i love it!

Lack of "wow" games for me is the only bad thing, but i know they're coming so i'm not concerned.

Yep, that’s what I like to see :) Bet some slading the console before release a few posts back maybe eating their words now.

Im still busy with NSMBU,, will try ZombieU......at some point

Does ZombiU deserve its 18 certificate? ie: I've seen games with an 18 certificate before which only feature shooting zombies, and really really didn't think it deserved such a rating.

So anyone regret their purchase after grabbing a Wii U?

I'm not disappointed I bought it, in fact I really like the console and overall I'm very happy with it... but, there are too many areas I can point at and see flaws and I just wish they had have sorted them for launch.

No ethernet port
No audio out
Poor GamePad battery
Disc constantly spins even when not playing a game
Launch line up was pretty "meh"
Horrible support for the Controller Pro
Bad hard drive space
No DVD or BluRay playback

Nope, think it's an awesome console. I think ZombiU is amazing.

It is that...crazy to think it recieved scores as low as 4.5 out of 10 as well.

Played it Multiplayer at the weekend with some mates, actually Zombiking/Capture the Flag is a well worked mechanic and is a lot of fun indeed, very tactical after you get over the initial, "SPAM ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE!!!!".

Loving the console, the Gamepad itself makes the thing so special. For what is seen as a 'Gimmick' by some just works well in it practicality. Also I've not touched my TV remote since I got this, works perfectly on the Gamepad with the DPad etc used to navigate. :D

Already sunk about 10 hours into COD which has been mostly online...although it's put me off my stride in ZombiU since I'm now used to one set of controls over the other...*That's my excuse anyways*.

Mario U is just typically a great 2D platformer and Nintendoland is a lot of fun!

Picking up Sonic for under £30 as my mate has convinced me it's an excellent kart racer, so should see me through to Mario Kart 8.

Oh and lets not forget Trine 2...beautiful and addictive puzzler/platformer!

:D
