Ok, so I've been browsing the forums for a while now in the graphics department seeing as this is the next port of call as it were and can't help but feel the information is not always so easy to come by, and when someone does post something, someone flames them saying that info should be in another thread which is already talking about that or it's a repost.

I suppose this is just my attempt at collecting all of the current data on the new Nvidia cards.**

* Sorry for poor spelling
** If anyone wants we can also discuss new ATI cards too =D

OK, so here's what I have pulled up so far.

Performance:

That is from a Japanese site, as we can see the performance looks pretty steady, the link to find the whole benchmark is here

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?article_id=629502

Build: In short, two 8800 Gts stuck together.

Pricing: This is where details go a tad sketchy,

http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/01/05/exclusive_nvidia_geforce_9800gx2/

Toms site claims the price is to be around 450 dollars (around 230 pounds :p give or take), however I found another thread that said pricing over here in merry UK will be around 330 pounds :( , if not, possibly even more than the Ultra... while this seems ridiculous to some I'm sure, it sort of makes sense considering the GX2 manages to outperform the Ultra in some ways ( stinking Nvidia and their profit protection).

I will try and find the link where that new pricing was posted, up untill I do, happy posting and feel free to correct anything in my post and to share information, rumours or whatever.

Happy posting. :)

Judging from early benches the GX2 can bugger right off, nVidia don't even need to bother releasing the card they have zero competition.

Looking at the initial benchies it makes you realise how good the Ultra was/is, it's like well over a year old and yet this new card isn't significantly faster, can't see it being 30% faster across the board as some sites are suggesting, if it's under £300 though it would surely mean buying a new GTX pointless, except maybe the OCUK GTX

May aswell leave this thread for another month seen as Nvidia have delayed almost all their new products to March.

You got a link, 9800 GX2 is out Feb 14th.

Almost all NVIDIA's upcoming products will be delay to March, according to our sources.

Delayed new products including 780a, 750a, 790i, 790i Ultra, and 9800 GX2. All these products should be announced in Feb, 2008. Sources did not mention the reason why NV hold the upcoming releases. And we guess that's because of factories are running into Chinese new year holiday.

The delay will push back the war between GeForce 9800GX2 and Radeon HD 3870 X2. And that means HD 3870 X2 will be the absolutely highest product in the market, continue eating NVIDIA's share for one extra month.

And 790i and 790i Ultra's delay will make them directly face Intel's X48. Also, in NVIDIA's February product line up, only GeForce 8200 will still stick on NV's roadmap, to be released in Feb. But GeForce 8200's rival, AMD's 780G have been released in China few days ago.

We've also reported 9600GT suffering a week's delay from Feb 14 to Feb 21, and its enemy, Radeon HD 3600 series already began selling from Jan 23.

Yeah that means when the GX2 finally surfaces, its going to be 14 months old tech, proper **** take this, no wonder they changing the names to 9 series, as they know if they still called em 8800's, everyone would say "you ******* what, your releasing cards that were out in 2006, and you still want £300-£400+ for em:eek:", where as with them calling them 9800's instead, they can charge the same prices as they did in 2006, even though a 2006 8800 is not going to be worth £300-£400+ today. :(

yes, it's based on the most recent "revision" of the 8800, but the core technology behind it is still from 2006. It's beyond pathetic that Nvidia is lagging like they are and it's possibly even more astonishing that ATI aren't capitalising on this opportunity to blindside d*ckslap Nvidias face (that having been said they are trying to by releasing the 3870x2 earlier). Anyway, the worst thing is how they feel the need to possibly charge the same money as an Ultra when this is just yet ANOTHER card that simply cannot run a game like crysis on "very high"... This really sucks how once again games are being bottlenecked in terms of performance because of expectations that were too high in terms of graphical performance, shame on crytek for being so lazy to optimize the games efficiency and shame on GPU companies for not upping the standards of their products to better suit the copiously high price tags...

Sorry, just felt like getting that off my chest XD

What i find funny is, we now have that the G100 (the supposedly next gen card), is now not next gen, its just going to be yet another 2006 8800, just its going to have the extra couple of Dx10.1 instructions added, and the HD stuff the 2900/3870's have, so when R700 comes out (the next gen card from AMD which the G100's are going to compete with) around the same time, its now going to be Nvidia who are nigh on 2x years behind, as they will still be churning out 2006 8800's, while AMD will be churning out their next gen R700's, so were getting a role reversal of nearly 2x years ago, when Nvidia were churning out their next gen 8 series back then, AMD were churning out their x1950's. :D:D:D

Why do you think the GT, and new GTS were not £300-£400 when they came out, as they are still under 8800 naming, 8800's are over a year old, they aint still worth their £300-£400 2006 prices, so 9800 naming will get around that. :p

They are G92 cores, but those are still 2006 G80's, just smaller ones, we are still getting 2006 tech, no matter how big/small they are.

But the G92 core is significantly faster than my older G80 and is cheaper so surely that's a step forward even if it's a development of the original product.

I agree that the price suggested for the performance is still too high to justify it.

The G92's are not faster than G80's, 8800 GTX/Ultra are still the fastest cards you can get from Nvidia, although that may be due to the G92's having 256bus's, so you could be right, but the fact remains they are old 2006 tech, theres no getting away from it. :p
