Anyone else made a Christmas cake this year?

Currently in the process of making my first one this year, it is currently sat in a tin being fed brandy every 5 days. Including soaking the fruit beforehand, I have so far used nearly all of a 35cl bottle. Seriously, it stinks of booze :)

It is not too bad for a first attempt if I do say so myself. Was surprised at the amount of fruit going in it though.

Will be putting on the icing and Marzipan about the 20th.

Anyone else made one? How has it turned out?

Will post some pics when done.. even bought some "ornamants" to go on top - lol.

will have to take a photo of ours.
baked in october (cross between delia & waitrose recipes), fed weekly with rum, marzipanned / decorated on 5th! would have left it later - but that was my last free weekend before chritmas!
1 big one for us, 2 small ones for gifts. all three cost a total of about £30 in ingredients!

Mine's done, and I'm feeding it sherry every week. I've almost used half a bottle, and it already smells lovely :) I'll ice it on about the 20th Dec I reckon.

Don't think I've other had christmas cake, it looks pretty much like a wedding cake.

Thirsty bugger it is. Reckon it has drunk half a bottle of Captain Morgan so far. :D

Mmmm... Mine is just in a tin, should I be wrapping it in parchment?
That's what my mum does, so I'd say yes :p It helps prevent the cake from burning. Also, it might not come of out of the tin in one piece if you don't use parchment.

Mine has been made since October. However if you are using fodent icing which is a crime should be ok, but if you are using Royal Icing then doing on the the 20th will not be so good.

I was always taugh, make the cake in October feed it, November marzipan it and let it dry, then ice in December, the reason you need to let the marzipan dry is ti will turn your icing yellow and not look very nice

I'm really annoyed with myself that I didn't get round to it. I always start mine the last weekend in November. I was away this time :(.

Yep I've knocked one up 2 weekends ago. Will be iceing W/C 20th.

Soaking it every weekend in sherry to keep her moist. Used Nigellas receipe and it certainly smells dayum good!

I am ashamed to say, I will be using ready rolled marzipan, did not realise how easy it was to be honest :(

So it should allready be dry!?

Will be my first time using royal icing, any tips?

This guy seems to know what he is doing:

What is it?

It's off a floor scraper
