** Official omg I just got my 5870 thread **

Installed mine yesterday - and first impressions are good, even over a 4870.

My 4870 was quite noisey (stock cooler) but the 5870 seems a lot quieter even though its also the stock cooler. Runs a lot cooler at idle too.

Had a wierd initial issue where the CCC was showing overclocking enabled, and a clock speed of 750Mhz..... but an uninstall and reinstall of the drivers cured that. Guess that was a hangover from the old card.

Only issue I had was trying to route cables when I also installed the new corsair TX750 psu in my Antec 180 case - its a cabling nightmare! Probably invest in a new case soon with decent cable management, or see what I can do with this one with a dremel and a hammer... :p

Got my 2 cards today. GTA IV has never looked so good for me, can max it out and get an average of ~60 FPS. Niice.

I'm maxing out GTA IV with one card at 1900x1200 res so why buy 2? Anyway only beef I have with the card is an occasional capacitor squeel when hitting high colour high FPS...

just installed my 5870 pretty good so far - crysis is now playable on very high with some aa which it wasnt before on my 280, and runs much cooler,

age of conan also gets a significant boost. not bad at all. is a tad louder than the 280 i think but not much and i havent heard any grinding or high pitched noises which have been previously reported.

I bought the VTX 5870 from somewhere else. running quiet and fast as hell on a Dell 27" ultrasharp.

Installed my 5870 last night upgrading from a 260 core 216. NFS Shift runs better than the 260 when there are no cars on track, but the 260 seems to perform better in a busy race which is quite odd. There's no contest with Flashpoint Dragon Rising, the difference between the two cards is incredible. Still can't get the bugger to work with my monitor over the DVI connection (had the same problem with 4870 and the GTX 260).

Really? I have found that my 5850 is far superior to my gtx260 216 in NFS shift even when the track is busy and that's with more AA applied with the 5850 compared to the GTX260 as well.

EDIT: However it does slow down with more cars on the track. Didn't notice as I am still getting better framerates than my old card but apparantly it is a bug in the game which applies to all ATI cards, not just the 5 series.

Allegedly we have a commment from Ian Bell, Game deveveloper of NFS:Shift

“We’ve worked hard to add additional optimisations for ATI cards with success. This will be coming in a future patch.”

There is an interview with Electronics Arts about this issue as well.

9.12 drivers? where are the 9.11's???

i read on another topic "apparently" ATI are waiting on nvidia releasing there Fermi cards and then they have something special up there sleves. Could it be the drivers? A lot of speculation is floating around by both parties but it's definitely going to be an interesting build up to Christmas

dont think the 9.11's will be anything special tbh. but im looking forward to the 9.12's!! althought not hopeing for too much as the card is already damn fast =]

is it that the hdmi out on the 5870 isnt that good or that vga is so much better in general? i used to run my 280 through the vga port in my tv with the dvi adaptor into the card and it looked awesome - i thought id try out the hdmi on the 5870 and it looks horrible! went back to the vga port on the tv and its back to looking awesome again!

last night i thought i'd overclock my 5870 (not done so yet) and was nudging it up by 5 each time and was very supprised it hit the limiter on the CCC 900/1300 and ran perfect within games/vantage without getting too hot, artifect etc.

i can only assume this is normal on stock volts for these cards.

i know i can update the bios to unlock the CCC limits but unsure if i want to do this incase i mess it up.

but i'm pleasently supprised so makes me think this suprise ATI have for there 9.12 drivers i reckon could be an increase to clocks etc as some of the speeds people are hitting are quite amazing with these cards

Idle temps are the same as powerplay is not effected so clocks/volts still drop when at idle, load temps have gone up by 4-6c max, still not going over 75c.
