I'm looking forward to this from next Thursday.

Tiger and Faldo have been paired together along with Katayama. Full tee off times here.

Has anyone got any fancies? I've got a feeling for Ernie Els this year. I much prefer a player getting off to a good start early on in the cooler part of the day.

Usually you hear the scribes saying such and such a course suits so and so but with Hoylake not having hosted since 1967 none of them are saying that.

From what I can gather the course used to be shorter than your average Open course but has been lengthened to over 7,000 yds. Also the only track on the circuit that will be finishing with a Par 5 as they are for some reason finishing at the 16th? Anyone any idea why

Me? Mickelson for the money I think. Would love to see Montgomerie win but think his best chance is at the US Open where he's come so close before :(

On a brighter note I got an invite to play Loch Lomond on the 7th August - really looking forward to it!

Ernie Els apparently won there as a youngster in a tournament. Its not for that reason i've tipped him. :)

I also heard that Tiger had 16 birdie putts (3 eagle putts) in practice yesterday. Not sure how true it is though.

Not got any hot favourites myself. I just hope the conditions are favourable and the Brits put up a good showing. :)

Will be streamed live on the BBC website as well

From the sounds of it we'll be seeing some pretty low scores

I'll be having my win bet on Els and an EW one on Monty at around 33-1 today.

Monty is a huge EW price considering his record in majors. I doubt big hitters will have any advantage over the week. I think Monty has the game that will make him suited to the course.

1248: Lee Westwood finishes with a 69. He takes off his cap to reveal classic Hat-Hair - a sweaty, flattened style reminiscent of a Lego figure's.
from bbc online commentary

I must be easily amused this afternoon but that made me laugh

Woods is on the charge he's just chipped in for an eagle at the 14th and has gone 2 shots clear at -11.

The fact he's right in contention so early on must make him a big big favourite to win on Sunday.

He's just eagled the par 4 14th, holing a 4 iron & moves to -11:eek:

Edit: You beat me, but at least I got it right;)

Thats got to be one of the best quotes i've heard for a while

Garcia eagles the second, throws his ball into the crowd:
"He threw that left handed, i always thought he was right handed.."
"Well, he could be amphibious"
:D

I think it was a joke.

Great golf from Garcia today. Should be Garcia vs Woods in the last group which could be fabulous. Looking forward to tomorrow and I hope it gets a bit breezy!

What amazes me is the distance these blokes get with their irons 210 yrds to the green and they are using 5 & 6 irons id need a 3 or 5 wood
