TR born and bred!

had a skim over thread, is this going to one big verse' or instanced 32/64 players maps?

Massive scale combat - although PS was 133 (399 total) players per cont, they say PS2 will be 1000+v1000+v1000+.

looks interesting, graphics and gameplay dont seem like a massive improvement over anything else but such a massive online battle might be spectacular if done right.

Graphics look great for an online shooter which should have hundreds if not thousand of players all at once.

Even SP games don't achieve that texture quality sometimes.

Graphics don't bother me, don't play games because they're "pretty". The gameplay is/was immense in PS and can only see PS2 being even better.

Out of all the MMOs I have ever played, nothing comes close to the fights I've had in Ultima Online and Planetside - probably due to the fact it was PvP from the start.

Quad

For soldiers looking to get from point A to point B rapidly, the Quad fits the bill. It has the highest top speed of any ground vehicle and is easy to acquire. The only downside is that it is not very tough, relying on its amazing speed and agility as its defense. In a battlefield where men cannot permanently die, military commanders have seen value in the quad as a flanking vehicle and have created options for several front mounted weapons.

Liberator

The Liberator is an armored gunship capable of wreaking havoc on ground forces. The primary weapon on the Liberator is a downward facing gun emplacement operated by a passenger. This emplacement has several different options such as an armor devastating 150mm cannon or a shredding 30mm Gatling gun. The pilot also operates a fixed forward nose cannon. While less effective than the primary weapon, the pilots weapon can engage from a farther distance and both weapons used in conjunction can be even more devastating. While it has medium armor the Liberator is slow and particularly vulnerable to enemy air superiority fighters.

Sunderer

The Sunderer is a massive 12 man armored truck designed to break through or "sunder" an enemy’s defensive line and deliver troops safely to a strategic location behind enemy lines. Its heavy armor allows the Sunderer to withstand large amounts of focused enemy fire giving it a much longer life expectancy. Its powerful engine and heavy mass also allows it to push almost any other vehicle out of its way, including tanks. Finally, the Sunderer has several support capabilities supplying medical supplies to troops and ammo to troops and vehicles.

Most interesting is the fact that the Lib doesn't seem to be a bomber anymore, and the sunderer sounds kind of like a cross between an AMS and a Lodestar too.

Never did kill much in bombing runs in a lib, but it was always fun to try :)

Sounds like it can be configured for anti-infantry or anti tank now.

This looks really promising for my FPS fix.

Any thoughts on how accessible it will be for a noob?

If PS was anything to go by, very accessible, but hard to master :)

The premise is simple, start off with not so powerful weapons, kill/capture/heal/mend stuff to get experience to get better armour and weapons :D

Ultimately it then gets interesting when you join a large platoon/squad as you'll then start to co-ordinate on your strengths, so someone may be a good driver and be specced for a lot of vehicles, they might also be an engineer to repair the squads vehicles etc.

Other people might be born snipers or stealth players. Others might be really good with heavy weapons etc.

you get to the point where as a squad you can start acting together to accomplish certain goals :) it really is a great game!

I shall share a vid of old planet side (it has not aged well :D) but you'll see the integration of peoples strengths into platoon sized fighting units.

Having a hugh running firefight from location to location just puts any other FPS to shame, people get excited over 64 player BF3 maps, it doesn't even come close to PS :D

got into the beta for this and could only play it for around a half hour. While i liked the jetpack type action and the ski-ing, which was a nice addition btw. I got really tired of the repetitive use of the old "noob tube" way of fighting.9 out of 10 ppl were doing this and this only so after playing 3 maps i decided to uninstall it. not my cup of tea playing like that. Though the engine seems nice and capable.

You able to give us some more info on the jet pack/ski-ing thing you talked about.

Also what do you mean noob tube way of fighting, what do you mean playing 3 maps? There is only 1 map surely, just different continents?

I signed up to it ages ago and never played the 1st game. Visually its very nice, plays very smoothly and hitboxes arent a joke like BF3's. I only saw 3 maps (or as you say 3 continents) which ranged from tropical beach with massive ships overhead, ancient ruins and the 3rd i only saw for a few minutes which had a lot of hills and slopes to ski down and gullies to hide in. I only had 2 weapons to try out. Machine gun and grenade launcher and my gripe from it came from the majority of the people i was on with using nothing but the launcher. The skiing was fun to do, slide down a big hill then blast upwards with the jetpack. There were ammo poins you walk into to reload all ammo.

The game mode i played was CTF and dont get me wrong it was fun for a little while. I just got tired of the constant use of the same tactic by people. (namely tube tube tube) fighting them was as easy as judging where they are going to land and firing at that spot but it got old fast for me.

I don't want people to think that im slating the game here as from what i have seen it has a good engine that ran the game at a fast pace with no problems at all, my only gripe is about the afore mentioned spamming of tubeshots to the point that someone actually shooting at you with the machine gun was rare (well, rare in the half hour or so i played it for)

Ill reinstall it later and give it a more in-depth go while its had a few days to settle but i hope that same style of play is not the prevelant one as that style is not for me.
