Depends on how you play I suppose - I could probably go an entire night without using one, and then blow about a dozen in a heavy defence. Last night I was earning infantry resources so quickly I was able to just keep resupplying.
 
I tried playing the game and now it says it has 4.5GB of patches to be installed,and even on an SSD it is taking ages. Why is the flipping patch so big,when it appears to only cause more problems??

I ended up shutting it down and running another game.

Don't bother with it mate, the game has been destroyed with this latest patch. The game stutters and freezes all over the place, it's like they deliberately injected loads of bugs into the patch for some reason. I haven't played much since the patch and hot fix because it's unbearable, the frames keep skipping, stuttering causing me to crash into walls with my Scythe etc

I used to get 30+ fps in big bio lab fights, now it drops down to 11fps and to think this was their godly 'optimization' patch HAH.

This game was supposed to fix what was wrong with Battlefield 3 for me, but it has only made me want Battlefield 4 that much more because these PS2 devs are bloody useless.

The patching system for LoL and PS2 is rubbish and assumes everyone has a high speed connection. You cannot even download the flipping patches offline, and the stupid PS2 launcher cannot even pause downloads and if you shut it down the update starts again.

How are you supposed to download a patch offline?

Also, the patcher starts from where you quit.

Instead of downloading the patch online(game),an offline(game) link would be useful.

With this patch it does not do it for me. It was taking for ever barely to reach a few percent,so I thought lets shut it down, so I can play something else.

Restarted it,and it started again from zero.

The game itself is great now, it's just such a shame they can't get the performance stuff sorted out to make it more playable. It would be that BF3 replacement easily if they did.

There doesn't seem to be many playing either, I've just been on for a blast and the servers seem pretty quiet. I think people are getting fed up and moving on.

I was playing on Miller most of yesterday.
That battle at Ti Alloys has been going on since the warp gate rotation, and its epic.
Didnt suffer any stuttering though, was pretty smooth.

I have bumped the physx onto my cpu though, seems to have helped with stopping micro stuttering for me atleast.

Hope that helps someone out.

Oh and c'mon peeps, yeah it's annoying when things aint quite right with the game but it's free ffs.
At least they are constantly developing the game.

I guess you just can't please some people :/
 
So a new "screwitfix" is coming.

The servers will come down at 06:00 AM PT for a hotfix to address a few outstanding issues. Downtime is anticipated to be less than 90 minutes. Players may note the following changes:


Hot Fix Summary :

Depot - G30 Walker and G40-F Ranger now available for Sunderer
Membership status info pane will correctly show players’ membership tier
Medical kits can be resupplied again
The Stronghold will no longer occasionally spawn players at a bad location
Prowler Anchor projectile speed bonus was incorrectly set too high
Hill climbing restrictions on Flash Turbo removed
Improved some oddities with vehicle collision causing excessive damage
Fixed some issues with fall damage being a little more punishing than it should have been – especially falling onto vehicles
Gameplay adjustments:
Nanite Auto Repair System
Disabled from damage time decreased by 2 seconds.
Amount of damage repaired increased for all vehicles
ESF Composite Armor
Increased bonus against flak by 5% each rank.
Increased bonus against small arms fire by 2% each rank.
M14 Banshee
Increased direct hit damage to 140 (up from 110).
Magazine certline adjusted to 6/9/12/15.
Lock-on weapons (A2A Missiles & Lock-on heavy assault weapons)
Lock-on Angle reduced. Targets must be closer to the center of the crosshair in order to lock-on.
NS Annihilator
Base lock-on acquire time increased from 2 seconds to 3 seconds.

Yes, more AA weapons for the game, because the Sunderer really needed them, it's not good enough that everyone has lock on launchers, duel AA maxes and lock on missiles while being totally invisible, we had to give the Sunderer the power to field two AA turrets to totally rape air with while the Basilisk did really well against air units. Guess it's time to get duel AA Walkers for my Sunderer too for the trolololols.

Some of this might be acceptable if they could fix rendering and not have everything "render" untill you can see the whites of their eyes.

Some of the bugs fixes are pretty good, like the unnormal fall damage taken and vehicles causing insane damage against others when crashing.

Higby has also tweetied that a "buff" for ESF's are coming too.

Wat?

I was in a sunderer yesterday, was a complete sitting duck to an ESF hover-rocketing me from outside my Basilisk's elevation angle. Don't see why sunderers shouldn't be able to have anti-air weapons tbh, they're sitting ducks to a single ESF at the moment.
 
Will this new hotfix include any performance improvements? I would have thought that was more important than the majority of stuff on that list.

Whilst I agree that the performance in general is shocking and the render distance issues are game breaking there is a lot you can do yourself to fix some of the problems.

The 2 fixes that pop into my head from talks ive had in the past week or so are graphics drivers and cpu overclocking.

If your running an ATI card then its "possible" you dont want to be running the latest drivers. More than one person I know is seeing a vast improvement by using the older 12.10 drivers instead of the much newer 13.10s. This may improve overall fps and stuttering.

If your running any kind of 3rd party on the fly over clocking software or have any kind of turbo boost enabled, then disable the Overclock and try PS2 again.
This may improve the warping issues. They are caused by the PS2 engine not being happy with small on the fly fluctuations in your CPU clock speed.

You can also check your internet connection and ISP. A large ping to the server your playing on will also cause problems.

Any time your client gets out of sync with the server it will try and recover. When it fails to recover you get the white screen bug. Some times if you wait long enough the game will catchup and allow you to continue playing. Most of the time it wont.

The physx setting is still disabled in the settings, however physx is being used behind the scenese for some stuff (the devs have confirmed this). This is another area where bad performance can occur and ultimetly the client will crash. For example, a laggy person pulls a vehicle and decides to drive near to you. Physx is being used for the vehicle mehcanics, but the person is laggy. There tank starts to warp, rotate and sometimes fly. Your client tries to compensate for this, fails miserably. Your client starts to lock up and die.

Regarding the latest hotfix. Im of the opinion that sunderers didnt need AA guns. Not having them was a cheap and effective way to force teamwork. The skyguard was allready pigeonhold into a very small niche role, now its pretty redundant. You can have an ammo supply, AMS sunderer with 2 different types of AA gun on top. Thats a powerfull vehicle.
 
So a "good pilot" should be able to hover-rocket a sunderer to death without taking a single bullet in return? Nah.

Besides, if you take 2 walkers you won't have any anti infantry weapons - you'll have to get out of your sundy just to shoot that engineer with 3 AT mines.

If you don't move and allow him get in a position where he can hit you then that's your fault really isn't it, the same if you are infantry and you stand still for the enemy, do that often?

Unless you pliot a lot, you don't really know how much a ****y experiance it is to fly and try to kill a sundy.

Also, we hover in-front of our targets most of the time because we can't see crap all unless we "hover" in-front of you.

I know what you're saying, but you can't drive and gun a sundy on your own.

I do pilot quite a lot, most of my time is spent in my scythe. I know flying has it's problems, and it needs some changes, but I don't think sundys should be defenceless to air. We're only talking about 1 ESF here, let alone a lib or multiple aircraft.

Also, we hover in-front of our targets most of the time because we can't see crap all unless we "hover" in-front of you.

Render issues need fixing sure, but that shouldn't affect game design for sundys IMO.
