*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Was anyone just on EU 01 server as Vanu just now? Near Xeno Tech labs I was in a HUGE army of tanks, probably about 25-30 lightnings/magriders was ****** MENTAL and during all this my machine kept steady smooth 40+ fps.

Besides the occasional bug and disconnections from server, this game is really shaping up.

I went with TR as they've always been my first pick since PS1, and like to have air combat as a large part of my game-play. Only trouble is the mossie feels odd, as you can never come to a complete stop anymore without constantly 'bobbing' around with vertical thrusters and feels harder to out-maneuver the other races. Anyone with more experience feel the mossie is at a disadvantage, or got any tips?

Interesting, at times the TR have had a 10% higher population and still get no where, worse most time the TR cant hold on, its given me the impression that the TR are really under powered but if they are doing OK in EU3 it must be the players in the EU1 :(

It's the fact that on EU01 NC and VS very much gang up on TR. They rarely encroach into one anothers territory but love to go into TRs making it very hard for TR to fight on two fronts.

I imagine on other servers there's a little more battle going on between VS and NC allowing TR more room to manouvere.

Just wanted to report back and say that the above FXAA fix worked a treat.

Much prefer the game without the FXAA :)

Had a great blast on it last night taking bases and sniping TR.

Anyone got a spare key for this, wish i bought 2 copies of that pcgamer now, i got one fopr a guy on here as i wasnt feeling the game then, but doh that was a mistake.

You can now buy beta entrance $39.99 will also give you a loads of other PS2 stuff. Its called Planetside 2 Alpha Squad.

Platoon and squads have been somewhat imrpoved so far in the beta but still need lots of work. Dunno about outfits, Outfits have no gameplay impact, it's more like a clan. Platoons and square are the more core in game teamplay features.

Some Nice Upcoming Chances coming soon.

Sunderer changes:

-Repair and Rearm functions of the Sunderer are going to be stripped, by default it'll be a 12 man transport vehicle

-Repair, Rearm, Respawn and other cool toys like Blockade Armor (which allows you to drive through gate shields) will all be certifications for the Sunderer which unlock loadout choices. Which functionality you want to have with the Sunderer will be up to your loadout, you'll be able to select one of these benefits at a time.

-Cert costs for each of those three options will be relatively low, meaning getting a Sunderer to be a mobile spawn point will be pretty easy

-Further certifications such as deploying a cloaking field, stealth so it doesn't show up on radar, etc. will be evaluated to see if they're needed.

Galaxy changes:

-By default, Galaxies will no longer be able to deploy as spawn points, but they will still be able to deploy into equipment terminals. Note: Terminals moving to a certification/attachment is a future possibility, but at first they will be available by default

-Spawn tubes will be available for the Galaxy as a high level Galaxy cert, it will be expensive and far down the advancement tree. The thought behind this is that dedicated Gal pilots will be able to use the spawning functionality, rather than EVERY pilot. Some limitations may be implemented to keep the eventual "everyone unlocks everything" effect from making Galaxies the defacto spawn tool.

-Other possible certification / loadout enhancements to the Galaxy include adding the ability to load a vehicle, have "powered" hot drops (drop pods), and allowing squad members to spawn into the transport variant while it's in flight.

Global changes:

-Coming in the next patch MAXes will no longer be able to be spawned directly into, you'll have to go to an equipment terminal and in the following patch they will have a cooldown and resource cost as well. That means that you will not be able to spawn MAXes at Galaxies, Sunderers or squad spawn beacons. MAXes will be available at the equipment terminal on gals, but we may end up limiting that as well down the road, we'll make a determination on this based on beta further beta feedback.

Our goals with this are:

-To make ground based forward spawning the primary forward spawning method and therefore enhance the importance of the ground vehicle game.

-To put some limitations on the current degree to which Galaxies allow attackers to bypass defensive chokes.

-To give hot drops and blockade running more tactical relevance, cause they're awesome.

-To layer some additional role choices into our support vehicles.

Glad to see SoE are listening to the players, some much needed changes here!

Whats the resource farming about?

Where do you farm for resources and how do you farm it?

I'm looking in the official forums but can't find anything about it.

Wont be buying PS2 simply because i get my infantry fix elsewhere, but some good fun was had. Only graphics bug was invisible weaponry with maybe just the sight hovering in the air in front of you, but seemed very stable.

Its good that its free to play then, no initial purchase or sub costs afaik.

I quite like it, well, I like the scale of it... And some of the ideas they have for post release content sound really good. But I agree that it feels a bit clunky in places, I prefer the feel of BF3.

Basically every 15 minutes you are ingame you gain resources depending on how many hexes you own. So people just afk at the warpgate to gain resources mainly auraxium so they can afford some shiny new weapons. Pointless really since a character wipe should be happening soon enough.

I was thinking more in terms of the alpha pack, although the fact it is f2p is great as i can keep checking in. I take it youll need the station credits for stuff like better equipment and things?

station cash will only be used for anything a player can buy themselves in game.

Cosmetic stuff is only station cash exclusive though.

Most things in the shop cost auraxis alloy, which is gained as an in game resource i believe the average time it takes to unlock is 12500 auraxis takes about 20 in-game hours to unlock.

Not really pointless, they want to try everything they can in the beta, be it for fun or to find out if something works or not.
It's a bit stupid that everything is normal price preventing everyone from having everything, so they can check the balance out and see if everything is working as intended.

am really tempted to buy the alpha squad thingy for £30 as i've tried in loads of places for the keys but come back empty handed. just worried i might be expecting a bit too much from this game.

People who have already bought the alpha pack will be getting an extra key to give away shortly so you could beg one of them.

If you like the Battlefield series of games the you'll like PS2.

However, you need a fairly decent rig to play it.
