*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Just got the beta but i cant even get to play. Loading is taking forever and is stuck loading textures screen on 15% for ages. Then there is a audio warping bug. Then i cant even get in the eu server as clicking play or start does nowt.

Pretty crap beta experience so far for me. This isn't my first try at a beta either i have been in a few betas and this is by far the worst experience.

I hope this gets fixed and i can try it out eventually.

Skeeter, they have intentionally limited the number of servers at the moment. I can't even get on to play it either :-(

I still think the graphics are rather cack, but I'd be happy with it if they sort the game play out.

Hmm last try after editing gameoptions ini and done a sound tweak. Duno if its that tweak or the EU server going from full to low but launching the game to get to menu was really fast this time not like 1-2 mins stuck on 15% loading textures this time. Creating a character works now, and now i get actual messages saying servers full.

Dunno what the hell is going on but at least the game issues about using the game and launching the game are fixed now i just need to see about the server being empty a bit so i can get on but meh not sitting waiting and clicking all night so ill try again at 9 see what happens then.

Incase it was the tweak it was UserSettings.ini and changed UseFloat32Output=1 to UseFloat32Output=0

Got in, the Eu came back up.

No clue what to do tho so i ended up running around like a chicken. After 3 mins i jumped off as there was no tutorial to help me learn all the systems and stuff and cba to figure it on my own.

Mmmm well is is fairly straightforward, but maybe theyll have something at launch? You could read a guide, watch a youtube vid or something.

Taking a long time to load in, no idea what theyre doing.

Booted off again, goddamn eu server is up and down like a yoyo.

*edit completely pointless tonight, guess theyve reached max on the server and hit problem point. Moving on.

Really

I've been killed several times whilst stood on the side of a hill watching the sun go down/come up and tracer fire flying across the sky, forgetting I'm supposed to be killing those red triangles! Breathtaking isn't the word.

cba to figure it on my own.

Your loss  I don't think PS2 needs to spoon feed lazy gamers - it will be better for it.

Sorry Amigafan2003, just don't agree... graphics look pretty naff... and some gosh awful texture in parts. I know it's beta before you say... but some of the world just looks awful. The texture quality is terrible. Draw distances are good, and it looks pretty good when not relatively close. But the soldiers and vehicles and a lot of the landscape just look crappy when mildly close. For a AAA game I would hope they sort out the textures before release.

Playing as TR tonight for the first time. Held onto the crown pretty well :-D So many kills lol.

They have kept some of the textures low quality to keep the size of the beta install down.

I am hoping there are better textures, certainly the difference between the images on the website and in-game suggest theres are crisper models out there. Fingers crossed.

Another mental game last night fighting VS for a bio station, one of the few real defensible structures in the game. There are basically two ways into the base which are the landing platforms on either side. VS had set up defences at both, engineer turrets and Maxes mostly. As TR we had to come up from Sunderers parked around the base, get up onto a tower and then propel up onto the landing platform.

So the battle was to take the towers, then the platform, then force our way in through the doors. Eventually, on about the hundredth try, two galaxies managed to land their butts on the platforms and hose down the defenses and infantry got inside, Then it was another hour of close quarter fighting before all the points fell and victory.

Amazingly absorbing gameplay, really should join a squad at some point, but its a lot of fun without at the mo.

Currently got a 10 slot mumble server up and running for PS2. There is around 4-5 of us on there on average squading up.

So if you want to come and have a blast with us, just send me a message via my trust and i'll give you the details.

:)

I had an epic fight as NC at a bio station last night. Was awesome to see hundreds of players descending on the station and fighting tooth and nail to get it, loved it!

They have high quality textures just not realised them yet since the game is still heavily in the optimisation stage iirc.

I'm in the beta. Thanks Gzero.

Played a bit its quite fun. Managed to get a few kills even when I didnt have a clue. Its big and confusing. Seems very vehicle oriented.

What kind of FPS should I be looking at with this set-up.

Got an i5 2500k - 8GB RAM and a Sapphire 7850 2GB. No overclocks on anything.

Got my settings at a mix of Highs and some mediums for lighting and shadows, with V-Sync on and a resolution of 1920x1080 I seem to be getting lows of like 37fps, maybe spiking down to 28 when there's a lot going off on screen, but only like a spike then it'll sit at around the late 30 mark.

But in some areas looking over terrain which has less action I will be getting 60fps.

Is this what I should be expecting for my card? Or is it more down to the fact that it's a beta build? :)

My spec's are better than yours but my frames are worse - go figure. But its a beta - FPS vary from patch to patch at the moment and right now because the servers are rammed they are pretty low but considering the stress test I guess its not too bad. At first they were REALLY REALLY bad and have had some ups and downs over each patch. NONE of it is representative of what you can expect from the final build.

Basically there's a lot of background logging and reporting going on at the moment that you just don't see, and optimisation for various setups and settings is not complete. You'll find you have to tweak away on a per patch basis to get it running just OK. Then just before the next big update they will give a few days of performance... so the cycle continues until release.

Suck it up, get in there join a squad and enjoy - this is the best game for donkeys years.

anyone got a spare key, I got this message in my email on saturday "You have been selected to hit the front lines and participate in the PlanetSide 2 Beta!" but it no longer works :(

Would be very grateful
