*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

if i could find a outfit on ceres (VS) then i would probally sub but playing with randoms is so frustrating sometimes

They plan to have 6 continents before the end of 2013 with an improved meta (supposedly each faction will have a unique home continent).

Think i'll give it a break til then, played since tech test and a bit tired of it for now :(

Ah a bit like PS1 then? Where you had a home base with a warp gate to a continent? Watching forces amass in the sanctuary used to be epic.

Does anyone use a Joystick for flying?
I've tried but I just can't find a setup that feels right & just end up going back to mouse & keyboard which is a shame as I'd much perffer to use my X52 & pedals

I was trying to configure my xbox controller that i had & couldn't find a setup that felt right either, so i've gave up on flying stuff for now.

I looked into it but apparently the joystick support isn't great. Better off sticking with m/k. I just wish they'd let me remap the mouse functions for flying :(

I'm going to jump into this after work today, is there a good quick start guide somewhere? I played PS1 a lot so hoping it isn't too different.

There are a series of Tutorial vid's on Youtube that run over a few of the more important things can't link them from work though but if you search for Planetside 2 tutorials they should pop up, they are definitely worth a look especially the base layout one.

Can't get the hang of flying with this, it's a shame cos I was a bad ass mozzie pilot back in PS1.

Had some good times back in the day alongside the likes of ross, easyg, iamgud and a few others I can't place the names of right now.

I am also having issues learning to pilot the aircraft in this game, if anybody has any tips or tricks they could throw my way it would be appreciated.

Also is it possible to use a 360 controller just for vehicular use?

Bah, sick of the NC getting a kicking on Miller.

Really can be a struggle every day. If there isn't a Zerg then half of 'em have no idea wtf to do most of the time. Mind boggling.

You can use a controller. But I would recommend that you stick practicing with the mouse and kb.

In the beginning it was tricky, but if you are like me it will eventually click. Now I'm souring the sky , flying underneath bridges, and larger building structures without a care in the world:)

The NC are poor on Lithtech too. Just hiding in Amerish. Only to pop their head out once in a while to get smacked by the TR and Vanu on either Indar or Emerish.

The NC appear to like controlling a fairly empty continent. Last night the TR controlled Amerish with little resistance. Strange enough once they left not long after the NC controlled it again;p Actually to be fair they did control The Crown on Indar last night. Don't think they left it though;p

In DL we've been trying to get contacts with other outfits so we can work together in a coordinated outfit alliance. Think someone from your outfit posted on our forums about it but don't know what has happened since. We do seem to be at a population disadvantage a lot of the time and have a lot of outfits new to Planetside who are still learning but we need to work together. Not everyone seems to get that yet though...

Biggest issues I see with new pilots if they do not realise they have a thrust up/down, even then some don't know they have a down.

Bind this to your mouse extra buttons like I do, makes for some very cool nape of the earth flying and other agile maneuvers close to objects. I find that if you stay that close to the ground while in a dogfight, it gives them less room to place a shot, they can't trail you as much(can still lead) in some situations and if they're not careful you can run them into a rock formation aswell as having to maneuver to meet terrain constrictions.

Should they decide to gain altitude and dive, they've possbility lost visibility on you and/or lost speed and distance from you.

Personally, the game isn't set up for controllers, while it does work, the control scheme/sensitivity/ratio is all screwed up, used to be either "on/off" rather than analogue but they've improved it, not much. I also bind space to pitch up so I don't have to keep dragging my mouse for tight/constant turns.

Still can't get over the scale of this game, it just looks so good when your attacking a huge station, just feels so good and the sci-fi setting just adds to it.

I wish I was Terran instead of SV tbh, their guns feel so much better

Yeah, they did post. Mr.Yiff one of our Officers.

Wrong time to get people on though as lots working & going away for festivities.

Pop is always a disadvantage and will create more players for the TR/VS once newbies see the NC getting a kicking. If they increased the pop rewards for being under-populated then people would think twice about switching Faction so quick.

It's something that I think would really help balance the game more & also mean Factions are less likely to be under-popped so often & potentially means player longevity as having yer ass handed to you all the time is not an incentive to keep trying & keep playing which then means that Factions overall numbers drop = Vicious downward circle.

Yea, hopefully something can be sorted in the new year and we can start fighting back, I'm sure we'd be up for some combined ops though. :)

Agree on the low pop bonuses though, they should also put in some kind of cooldown on switching factions on the same server imo to encourage people to stick with one character on each server. But then I don't know why they removed that restriction in the first place.

People driving the Whaaaaa-mbulance about not being able to play any character they want at any time, so they caved in.

But yeah, bring back in a cooldown for same server would be beneficial, but if they don't help the under-pop Factions (all servers I mean as I'm sure NC dominate on some US ones) then they'll turn into ghost servers with only the dominating faction left.

Might be a question I ask Luperza next month actually :D
