Some AWESOME updates coming next week :)

Hey all!

We wanted to give you guys a preview of some things you can look forward to in GU04, which is tentatively scheduled for release next week, pending any issues discovered in testing of course. First though, I wanted to talk a bit about our current update schedule "cadence" so you all understand when you can expect the game to be updated.

We have three types of updates to live that we use; Game Update, Patch and Hotfix.
Game Updates come on a 2-week cadence, so every second week you should expect a major game update with new features, gameplay changes, items and bug fixes. Last week we released GU03, we expect to release GU04 next week.
Patches come in between Game Updates, they typically don't introduce new gameplay or features, but will usually contain bug fixes, balance changes, and new items. We won't always have one each week, these come as needed.
Hotfixes can come any day, and they're based on an urgent need to change a game balance issue or bug.
In general we try to release Game Updates and Patches early on Wednesday mornings (PST), but we sometimes need to hold back the updates for more QA time when issues are found.

Coming with GU04

Here's a preview of some of the features which are currently scheduled to be released with GU04 next week and the patch in the following week:
Flash update:
Wraith Module (Cloaking) for infiltrators using the Flash
Rumble seat - bring a passenger with you on your flash, they are weapons free in the passenger seat!
New weapon: Renegade shotgun
Account level unlocks
Items you've purchased with StationCash will be available to all characters on your account that are eligible to use that item.
Common pool items, such as the Zephyr or NS-11 will be available to all characters on your account.
Empire specific weapons such as the GD-22 and Lasher will be available to all characters of the required faction on your account.
We are working on a solution for those of you who have purchased the same item on multiple characters.
VR Training
A safe test zone where you can try each weapon and vehicle in the game with no resource cost or cooldown timers.
Target practice areas to learn weapon strengths and weaknesses at range, practice recoil patterns.
Driving/flying area to practice with vehicles.
Areas to practice team tactics, such as towers and small outposts.
No player stats are recorded in VR, so have fun!

New respawn & map screen
We've combined the respawn and map screen into one.
The new map screen has been cleaned up better use space.
Additional top requested features, such as friendly troop locations will be coming soon, but not with GU04.
Membership enhancements
We've increased the number of passive certifications for members and scaled the increase in cert points based on length of membership. The new cert point rates are as follows:
1-mo. member - 24 passive cert points/day
2-mo. member - 28.8 passive cert points/day
3-mo. member - 33.6 passive cert points/day
4-mo. member - 38.4 passive cert points/day
5-mo. member - 43.2 passive cert points/day
6-mo. + member - 48 passive cert points/day
Empire specific Rocket Launchers
VS - Lancer: an extremely precise, super-high-velocity, anti-vehicle energy weapon with a unique charge mechanic, the longer you charge the weapon the more damage it deals.
TR - Striker: launches a series of mid-damage guided missiles at a single target, the Striker's user must maintain the lock by keeping the enemy in the crosshairs while the missiles are tracking.
NC - Phoenix: A high damage, slow firing camera guided missile which must be guided by the Phoenix's user. The Phoenix is capable of dealing high damage with very little warning since there is no lock on.
These weapons will be released in the patch the week following GU04

Notable balance changes
Explosive radius from ALL vehicle based damage sources have been reduced, this does not affect vehicle vs vehicle direct hit damage, only splash damage vs infantry.
Prowler HEAT / HE rounds have had their damage reduced to no longer 1-shot kill infantry, killing a full health infantry will require both Prowler rounds to be fired. This does not affect vs. vehicle damage.

This is just a small preview of the main tentpole features for GU04, in addition to the above GU04 will contain a number of bug fixes and smaller balance tweaks, map changes to Indar, optimization and stability improvements.
I want to be absolutely clear that all of this is tentative, and until it's on the server it's not a guarantee! We want to keep you guys as up to date as possible with the current development, but it must come with the understanding that features slip & dates slip, and what we're giving you is our best possible projection of what and when.
As always, we're excited to hear your feedback, here, twitter, facebook and everywhere else.
Thanks!

Skanking the Prowler ffs

Why not just remove TR from the game :(

Next patch - if VS or NC type kill in chat, then all TR die instantly. If VS or NC type capture in chat, they automatically capture all bases and prevent TR from spawning for 700 hours.

As a prowler tank driver I am supremely butthurt over these patch notes, no more 50-1 average :(

Higby did later post that these changes are only talking about splash damage from the Prowler rounds, if you direct hit infantry (or near enough direct hit) with one round they will die. It just won't kill everything in the 10m around it with splash now, you'll still be making me curse with your prowlers shelling the crap out of everything I'm sure. Obviously for you I guess it sucks as its a nerf to you, we've all had them, but it did need to be changed, just as the Magrider needed to be toned down previously.

Well, some of that update am looking forward too.

Going to finish certing into my Flash, can't wait to use cloak on it, sneak up on some guy, decloak and unload my Flash GL on him then zoom away. :)

Account level unlocks is something am looking forward too, SC for all characters is great.

The new Rocket Launchers are just a other money grab while screwing everyone who bought the old ones.

I know the VS was going to get a laser rocket, which is just going to be an infantry carried Saron HRB.

NC seems a copy of the new AV turret, which right now is awesome since you can stay out of rendering distance and fire at vehicles, the vehicle will just take damage, he doesn't know whats hitting him, where it's coming from and anything.

TR's doesn't sound bad, hope it can be dumb-fired, pretty sure it will suck out of the three.

So all the crying about the Prowler has caused a NERF for all vehicles for all factions, doesn't matter who you are now, splash damage has been nerfed for everyone and on top of that, the HEAT and HE for the prowler had a nerf on top of that, so double nerfs, nice way to balance a game.

I'm so glad I didn't buy HE for my Prowler, I did trial it in beta and decided since it sucks so much against vehicles and turrets, giving up HEAT is just too much of a trade off.

Even through it will now take two shots to kill infantry, this is not going to stop TR from fielding Prowlers, setting up camp around a base and just killing anything that moves, am sorry, but you can balance the game as much you want, it doesn't fix "stupid" players who keep deciding to spawn and run in the same spots over and over, you can't fix stupid unless you do it with a 9mm.

In theory since it takes two hits from a Prowler to kill infantry now and as current I only care 67 rounds, I can kill 33 infantry before I need to rearm and that's if every 2 rounds kill a person, in best practice, that will never happen and we be retreating to a Ammo tower as often as a ESF pliot needs to land and repair every minute.

They still haven't fixed the real problems with this game, rendering distance, this needs to be bloody fixed. Ammo Towers just "popping" out of no where when flying and the triple loading bug that's been around since beta.

Hahahahaahahaahahahahaahahahaahahahaha.

As if you actually think TR are underpowered, or even close to being so.

The account level unlocks looks pretty limited atm. For example I have the Jackhammer on NC, I won't get the Mini Chaingun on TR with this change. I have breaker rockets for my Reaver, I won't get the equivilent for the Mossie. It's just stuff like the NS11A (common pool assault rifle) or the Lib guns that will be there as I understand it.

The new rocket launchers, well the VS and NC ones were in Planetside 1:

VS Lancer in PS1:

If it's like that it will be more like an anti-tank sniper rifle with pulse fire.

NC Phoenix:

The AV engineer turret you're talking about is fly-by-wire your view never changes. The Phoenix if it's like PS1 you'll point the rocket launcher but when you hit fire you'll switch view to the missile and steer it yourself in first person. Very much looking forward to it coming back.

I'm not looking forward to any of that, like I said many times the rendering distance in this game is bad, very bad. Vehicles already get shot by unseen enemies who haven't rendered to them and this is just adding to the problem.

I heard and read that Phoenix ruined PS1 and there was a lot of crying about that too, anyway it's nice that players can remain unseen and have a camera that allows them to easy track and snipe vehicles who don't know why they are losing health every 2-3 seconds.

On the good news they have increasing Torque on all MBT's so we don't go from 60km to 5km on a small incline.

How does this run on your systems guys?

I've got an i3 3220, 8GB DDR3, 7850 2GB and when every setting is on medium, I only get 35fps.

What's going on?

Just came back to PS2 and i'm still getting around the same FPS in massive fights Tom_D, i7 950 @ 4ghz & GTX 660 - always CPU bound :(

They still have a lot of work to do on optimization yet, hopefully that's still one of their top priorities in the coming months.

Seems like I can forget about this game then. It was just when I was looking into the distance at everything going on and everything flying over my FPS dipped to about 35. It wasn't so good just walking around the terrain either, about 40.

Seems like the game needs to be heavily optimized.

You should be happy with that!! This game runs like a bag of nails on even the best systems. When the servers are really busy it'll easily drop into the 20s.

Put shadows, effects and particles on low and reduce render distance to ~2000. That'll speed things up on the CPU side. Turning up textures to high shouldn't be a problem with your GPU and may help to shift the load there a bit.

Mate, I can't remember where I got it but I had a config on my desktop called 'Wolvers Ultra'. Just tried it out on my system and it pretty much maintains 40-45 all the time while still looking great, definitely the best config for higher spec system who want a mix of good fps and looks. Cheers :)

'Wolvers Ultra'

:D

Post it up for people to try out.

The thing is though, 40-45 is just about playable for an online fps (and I'm being generous there) yet you NEED at least an OCd 3570k AND the reduced CPU load settings to have any chance of obtaining that. Anyone who say otherwise is either lying about their fps or hasn't been in a large battle at peak times.

It won't be a 'massively' multiplayer for long if it carries on like that. They'll end up with just one server only full of people with Intels with high IPC and no one else!

I still play here and there, but I have to avoid peak times and stick to smaller fights otherwise it becomes a slide show. Thats' really stupid when you consider that big battles are what this game is all about!!

No FPS problems here on Max using a i7 at stock.

Always in huge battles, that's all I look for tbh. And im talking big 'zerg' following stuff with tanks, air and crap loads of infantry
