Indurain is a particularly interesting rider to observe

his dominance came at the height of the EPO era. He was a big rider, hell he was known as "Big Mig".

a 6ft2in 80kg man danced up the climbs like he was Marco Pantani.
If you read up on Migs physical attributes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miguel_Indurain), I was always under the impression that he did well because he was a mutant, something that was always talked about when the tour was on TV in those days.

I guess people saw the start of ITV4's show today where they said that Froome's going to be independently tested after the Tour, and all his race and training data going back as far as possible's going to be released, along with his biological passport, etc. Basically everything... seems like it'll be as transparent as possible, on the face of it.

Yeah I seen that and about to do some Internet digging on the "actual-ness" of what Froome has proposed.

The thing is, Froome wants to do this. Publish publically all his race/training power data from the complete past and for the future. He is also wanting to publically publish his bio passport details. It's basically Froome saying "**** you" to the people accusing him and that really is 100% transparency if he was to do so.... However, how legally he can do that under contract to Sky is another question, I don't think Sky will be happy and/or want him to do this so until the TEAM say what is on the cards, I don't think it means very much. But it clearly shows how confident, proud and clear to Chris Froome it really is that he is riding and winning as a clean athlete.

I watched the Life Story profile show thing on ITV4 last night after the highlights about Froome and it truly is an amazing story. I strongly recommend people get on ITV4 on demand channel and give it a watch, really cool. It was on at 8pm ITV4 last night :)

Yeah one of the better things I've read. I particularly liked:

Then Froome, on the verge of being discarded, having not even stood out as exceptional in our SA cycling circuit (good, but not “let’s blow away the best” exceptional), transformed into the greatest ever cyclist after the age of 25, with VO2max values that would have made a physiologist’s eyeballs explode (and hey, we’re in Africa, but we aren’t that backward here), riding away from people who WERE earmarked for greatness from a young age. It’s the most remarkable transformation of a mature athlete ever. Late emergence is one thing, transformation when you’re already in the ‘window’ quite another.

The often repeated VO2max of 88 for indurain doesn't make any sense given he was extensively studied as part of his hour record attempt:
http://m.jap.physiology.org/content/89/4/1522.full

Quoted there at 6.4l/min, at 80kg that gives a vo2max of.. 80

I cannot see how indurain possibly won the tour clean given his physiology

Hutch was talking about VO2 max the other day - in 2005 he was tested at 90, and he's never been anything above a good national level rider, so it isn't the be all and end all.

Although he did finish 14 (?) places above Chris Froome at the 2006 Commonwealth Games which I believe is when Dave Brailsford claims to have spotted Froome. :p

I think Hutch was being very modest, I think the top amateur time triallists would be a match for a lot of pros, although mainly because they focus on their aero positions a good deal more than all but the TT specialists.

Why is nobody chucking their poo at Sagan? In this day and age where someone doing well is obviously a cheater (if we go by recent nonsense), then Sagan surely is cheating, no?

Part of me is wondering why these foreign journalists are so butt hurt about Froome. I am starting to think nationality really is a big part of all this carry on.

until relatively recently we've been fairly poor at (and therefore dismissive of, it's the british way) cycling, so it's not that surprising our winners aren't necessarily that popular

It is all about the but hurt, oh and well, general xenophobia...

“It’s completely different from the USPS and Discovery Channel, but it’s easy to make the comparisons between these teams and Sky,” explained Gilles Comte of Vélo Magazine, a Tour journalist since 1992.

“Lance Armstrong is the recent past. And for the French public, Chris Froome looks a lot like Armstrong. He looks a little too robotic, and not Latin enough.

And, not Latin enough. lol. Really, just really. If this is one of the reasons why they hate him soo much, then it is just pathetic and really shows that the french are just arrogant xenophobic idiots.
