****Official rFactor 2 Thread****

Just been added to Steam and costs £14.39 or £37.79 for a lifetime online.

Is it worth getting at £14.39?

I mainly play iRacing online and have AC and pCARS as well.

I'd save your money. Unless you want to invest time with league racing as it has very little to offer when it comes to the single player experience. You can setup single race weekends against the AI and.....that is it. AC and PCARS are both better for some quick pickup multi player racing, along with R3E.

It's good to drive, the historic sports cars are a favourite of mine. Unfortunately I only ever test it a new build time as it doesn't like my SLI triple screen setup. Have never got it running satisfactorily.

And I'd say the opposite, at least for a quick offline race. The AI in rf2 is the best out there at the moment imo, and I also feel the same of the ffb. Of course ffb is a personal thing so you might not like it. I'd say it's worth a punt given the fact you can get it refunded if you don't like it.

Anyone playing this?

I understand it now uses Steam exclusively with workshop support etc. Seems a good idea.

Is there no charge for online now, does it use Steam matchmaking?

Seems a good moves by the devs.

Devs have actually changed, the original guys sold it off to another studio which is now why the game is getting regular updates and content. I'm still waiting for VR release which should be very close. Once you go VR in sim racing, monitors just feel wrong.

Interesting.

I thought ISI were OK. They pioneered a lot of cool sim stuff back in the day.

Is online play now free then?

I didn't follow development then so not entirely sure but what I can gather they made promises of a load of features but never delivered on them. ISI are currently working on a unknown project that uses an iteration of the current Rfactor 2 engine. Forgot to say, yes multiplayer is now free.

Had a go with VR over the weekend and it's a bit rough round the edges to say the least. Head tracking in the car was good and after turning down a few settings performance was ok, enough to be playable. However something felt slightly off the perspective and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I think it might be that the camera is sat I bit too far back when in comparison for your arms which makes them seem really long. Biggest problem is the menus though, which are rendered in VR on the headseat, are broken. Head tracking routinely breaks and it bounces you around the screen and also sometimes doesn't move. The menus actually made me feel a bit sick so I had to stop playing, in game it's fine though strangely.

@Jonny, I tweeted rFactor2 and they said they have no plans for one yet. Shame really. Haven't yet tried VR with this new update, just been modding the ever loving hell out of rFactor 1, Must have at LEAST a 1000 vehicles with all my mods combined.

Seems there is little love for RF2 in these parts. I race mainly AC and RRE but keep looking at RF2. Has the VR support improved and what DLC would you say is a must?

The Endurance & GT3 car packs are on sale atm, as is the Track Expansion bundle.

And the Reiza bundle is on sale too, which is highly regarded as well.

It just doesn't contain your typical cars, or tracks, and is good for trying out something a bit different.

As for how the vr support is, I'd check the rF2 forum at RaceDepartment or Studio 397s' own forum. I haven't played it in vr in a while but it ran quite well when I did.

Only annoyance was that you couldn't have 2 separate gfx profiles for standard & vr gaming.

That might have changed now with a recent build, or the much fabled beta UI, but I'm not sure.

Just decided to check out Rfactor2 again these last few days, gotta say I'm so impressed with the recent graphic overhaul and GTE BOP changes. I've always thought rFactor2 has the best physics and handling of all the sims, it's just unless you mod it till the cows come home, it's a pretty bare experience with the ugliest and unfriendliest of UI. But after watching a few Virtual races on Youtube the last few weeks and the 24hour I fancied it again. It's just simply and incredible experience now.

A few videos if anyone interested in giving it a go. Lots of items on sale at the moment.

They'd be better re-releasing it either as a heavily discounted 'Complete Edition' including all DLC cars & tracks, and give people that have bought DLC a decent discount for any future releases as a 'thank you' for their support.

Or permanently drop the price of the base game to £9.99 as most of the content people want to drive is paid DLC anyway.

This would reduce the overall cost of the GTE / GT3 / Track package, which at around £85 is eye-wateringly expensive when compared to AC / ACC, which you could argue have a better selection of tracks that people know.

That's after they finally finish the new UI & make it more user friendly.

I have not played this game for yonks , glad to know there has been a long over due graphics update though , wont be buying any packs though as I'm waiting to see how much ACC are asking for the GT4 DLC today.

And as goes extra cars and stuff I'm not paying like £5 for a car or £10 for axtra tracks .

I have a couple of servers up and running under 'IB Racing Rotation'/'IB Super Touring' (might rename them to Racing Leagues as I'm sitting on the domain).

Feel free to drop in any time. rFactor 2 isn't the prettiest of games but as others have said the ffb and physics are decent.

If you're looking at free content, there is plenty available at the racing department and of course Steam Workshop.

I'm currently running V8 Supercars and Super Touring Cars but I'd also recommend the Formula Renault 3.5 and NGTC BTCC mods.

The menus are still ugly as sin and a pain to navigate in VR but the in game is now spot on.
