**Official Socket F Overclocking Thread**

Nah, checking it in CPU-Z and the 2 cores on the 2nd chip are definitely lagging behind the first two in terms tests done in prime.

I'll run some Super-Pi's that might highlight it better.

Is the multi (assuming youi can independantly control them) set to 1 then? Or is it at 5 and just not working?

Checked the BIOS and everything is set to 1000MHz, ran Superpi on each processor and for the first one I get about 32s, on the second 42s

:o

Memory for some reason is running at 200MHz instead of 400MHz. Going to update it to the latest BIOS while I'm at it.

Jokester

Edit: 3GHz :)

those still look like shockingly slow superpi 1mb times no matter which way you look at it.

well aware superpi isn't the be all and end all but crikey... at 2.6ghz a c2d halves the faster of those times

Sorted my RAM out, dropped the times to 28s and 36s so there's a definite speed difference between the chips so it does seem that the other chips HT is only running at 200MHz instead of 1000MHz.

lol - better luck next time :D

edit**

have ocuk sold many/if any of theese 4x4 set ups?

Last time I saw it on OCUK there was only 1 set in stock going for £800 or something similar just for the 2 CPUs & mobo.

@ OP - Dual FX-70 Oced + 8800GTX SLI + watercooling = monstrous PSU

Galaxy 1KW I assume?

1k watts

Thats silly imo

Which is what half of this forum will tell you is the MINIMUM requirement for a Core 2 Quad and SLI'd 8800GTXs... and just remember, too, that it can DELIVER 1Kw of power, not that it's pumping that out all the time.

Good going Jokester - I've been interested in this platform for a while, now... it appears to have more potential than Intel's implementation. It will be good to see how it turns out!

Keep going!

You can run a quad + SLI on a lot less but if you're looking to get the best stable overclock you can get you can't skimp on the PSU.

This is the best PSU I've ever had for stability, the only downside to it is the noise it makes on load.

very nice, interesting project will keep an eye on this

pretty harsh that it killed you Windows install, I remember when I messing with the RAM timings on my rig recently and it nearly corrupted my Windows installation.

I've identified what it was that killed my Windows, was running the RAM at 200MHz instead of 400MHz.

Looks like prime stable at 3GHz on stock volts, but testing I did earlier this morning points to it only going to 3.1GHz on the board max volts (1.55V). Now doing extended testing.

benchies? :)

As a benchmark beast, it probably won't come too close to a Core 2 Quad, to be honest, at least from what I've been reading.

However, the massive benefit of this system is the oodles of memory bandwidth it throws up, making it (in theory) a much more useable system.

Stick a couple of Phenoms in there and the results will be very different.

Jokester: a couple of ideas from a certain website about two-CPU pooters...

1) Make sure the contact between the heatpipe cooler and the northbridge is good and that the cooler is actually doing its job... one or two people have reported that it's either not seated properly or is simply getting overwhelmed by the heatload.

2) Make sure the mosfets are well cooled: the board comes with coppoer-plated aluminium heatsinks which aren't quite the business when it comes to cooling the 'board.

3) The motherboard really does appear to need a fan blowing onto its circuitry to ensure the massive amounts of heat it throws out are dealt with.

This *might* help you get away with a bit more, but I've seen most of the FX-7* series top out at around 3.2GHz...

Nice Jokester.

I was planning on getting a Socket F system but the price of that Asus board is just silly so I decided against it.

At 3.05GHz, Kentsfield at 3.6GHz gets about 20-25% more in the CPU benchmark. Can get more out of it but not much.

What graphics Jokester?

Better be getting Barcelona or what ever its going to be called to go in that mobo.
