Considering this is currently the most wishlisted game on Steam, I'm really surprised there isn't a thread about it already (or in fact barely any mention of it anywhere on here)

Yes, it's another horror survival/crafter, but (IMO at least), The Forest (first game) was much better than most of the huge number of Rust/Minecraft etc. clones which came out at the time, due to the excellent and unpredictable AI/behaviour of the natives, and the storyline which you had to go and seek out, rather than have spoon-fed to you. In many ways it reminds me of Subnautica.

The crafting/base-building was also great fun, and me and a few mates had a dedicated server set up where we built a huge cliffside fortress (in fact I've managed to log 91 hours, and haven't yet fully completed the storyline ).

From what I've seen of Sons Of The Forest, it's essentially "more of the same", but with better graphics, more enemies, more in depth crafting/building, and more gear, what's not to like?!

It releases today (yes in Early Access, but so did the first, and actually got finished) - according to Steam in ~9 hours, so that would make it ~5-6pm?

Anyone else looking forward to it?

From the videos of it, the building does look cool - I like how they've added animations of actually placing the materials rather than them just "popping" into position - hoping that's not the only "revolutionary" part of, but definitely a nice touch!

The building system in this is so good, once you get to grips with it you can do some really cool stuff. Feels like a step forward in building mechanics in these sorts of games.

Yeah, really enjoying it, it's very clever. Seen a few people complaining on the Steam forum that you can no longer just put down a blueprint and randomly throw materials at it, but personally I think the way they've done it adds to the immersion.

Not sure how I feel about the quick inventory/lack of hotkeys though, it's annoying having to open your inventory every time you want to swap between equipment - even if there was just a dedicated hotkey for the basic tools e.g. the axe, would be a nice improvement.

Found a couple of annoying bugs with the building - can't make a gate in the defensive wall, seems to be quite a common issue, so hopefully fixed soon, and also you can't destroy defensive walls after chopping the spike into the top :(
