***Official Squad Thread***

As Muska said, join the Steam group to get notified or just keep an eye on this thread. I post all the updates in here. I'll get around to updating the OP one day!

The biggest problem is that the servers get into a state where the level doesn't transition properly and a bunch of people crash and the game doesn't start.

That's why we have to poke them and keep them running. It's why we have to monitor them.

This isn't a simple bug. It's one of the main reasons why we pushed pre-alpha back a week. It's fine 80% of the time, but when it pops up, it's incredibly annoying and likes to only show up when there are a lot of people on.

We'll probably nail it down during pre-alpha (that's what it's for) and revisit the weekend thing.

As for why we aren't doing unofficial servers (yet): We don't have any code to prevent an out of date client from joining a server of a different build. You get bounced back to the main menu without even a hint of why you failed to connect... something that's awful and really annoying for outside people to see.

Due to the fact that we are going to be moving quickly during pre-alpha and likely releasing new builds to you guys every week... We really don't want the server list to grow stale with outdated builds.

Keep in mind, if we do revisit it, that's not a promise that we'll go 24/7. I'm simply sharing the game code reasons why we can't do 24/7 public pre-alpha.

There are a lot of issues involved and we want to both provide the best experience for you while still maintaining our development pace and keep on track for early access.

TLDR - Weekend only at first until a big bug gets squashed then maybe open it up more.
