Lol, cs:s is more run and gone than tf2. In tf2 you have to at least have a discussion about what class your all playing and what your roles are. In css you just play it like a death match and hope for the best.

But you said all TF2 classes are samey and theres no skill?!

When are people going to stop and realise this is, *shock horror*, a multiplayer FPS with NO competitiveness in mind when it was made?

It's been said countless times, and even the developers have pointed out a few times that if there's any competition going on, it's with yourself!

Thank god. I got all the regular ones within about a week, yes, that includes Friends Like These.

I think I got all but 2 of the achievements in less than a week too. Only the sentry gunner and friends like these took ages namely because it's bloody hard keeping a sentry up after 3 or so kills usually, and I didn't settle into any communities or specific servers much so never found 'regulars' to befriend :)

A lot of mixed difficulty in those achievements. You can definitely see from it that it's a long-term aim which will take many many hours to be lucky/skillful enough to obtain some of them.
 
I think i can be fairly safe in saying TF2 was never setup with leagues in mind!

Peoples main complaints about TF2 come from a complete and utter missunderstanding of what TF2 is all about!

TF2 IS MEANT TO BE FUN!

Valve already have their highly competition based game in CS:S... TF2 is meant for the masses, meant to be fun, meant to be pick-up-and-play-able. Adding things like grenades and things removes this.

TF2 is not for leagues, TF2 is not mainly for competition. Get over it and play one of the other more competitve based team games out there...

The problem is that the more serious players, especially those in clans, will just arrange to all get on a private server over a few evenings and "get" each other their achievements to unlock the weapons. That means those who aren't fortunate enough to be in a clan or know enough other players to do this will be left with the basic weapons and be at a serious disadvantage on public servers.

Well the new weapons shouldn't give anyone an advantage, otherwise that breaks the game. It should just allow you to play a different role in the team.

They also said in one of the interviews on the first page, that they're looking at other ways to get these weapons to people, hopefully that doesn't mean pay per unlock.

Well if they want to take the easy route then that's their choice.

Personally I think it'll take me a good while to obtain some of those achievements, as it's a good aim, and I'm sure I'll be twice the player at the end than when I started :D

No, sorry, was in agreement with you.

Any updage or unlock shoud be balanced. at no point should using an alternative weapon be an advantage, it should just be different. If you play with non default settings however (no crits, etc) then this may change, but this is of no concern of valves.

Im going to be interested to see what we get as alternatives to bog standard weapons. The medic must have been a fairly easy class to mod as all his weapons are unique... but what about the ones with generic secondary weapons?

The shotgun is the same for the Engi, Soldier, Heavy and Pyro, and the Pistol the same for the Engi and the Scout. Do you recon we will see an accross the board option for these, or a unique one for each? Personally, i think an accorss the board one. if they can have generic secondaries now, then they should keep some in the new updates.

What would you like to see tho? the Revolver replacing the pistol maybe? more powerfull with its much slower fire rate... or something like the Snipers weak yet fast fireing machine gun? What about a shotty replacement? the last thing this game needs is a semi decent machine gun, so I hope its nothign like that. I dont really know what could replace the shotty, except maybe an auto shotty with less damage...

And as for mele's, well. Am i right in thinking that all the mele weapons currently do the same damage at the same fire rate accross the board? The Medic update give you a unique advantage (increased uber) but with a slower hit rate. this wont work for other classes, as they have nothing to charge? Will we see just a bunch of different themed meles, like a fire extinguisher to hit people with for the pyro, and maybe just some tweaks like increased rate of fire with decreased hit, or vice versa.

Personally i think the Primay weapon options will be fine, i just have some concerns that the secondary and mele may become just 'mods for the hell of it' with no change in play, just a different look.

And on a final note, to end this mamouth post, what the hell are they going to do with the engineer?!?! change his weapons? change the sentries (this would be bad imo)? which is considered his primary? And finally, they CANT change his mele, its a wrench, its needed for his job. I have a feeling this will be a victim of either a 'new skin' wrench that is the same just maybe a shiny tourque wrench or something, or a victim of increased damage at a slower rate, although a slower rate would affect your building speed... AHHH i hope they have someone clever comming up with the Engi unlocks!

Looks instresting and the style is nice. Only a few people on the map (in this video) so you can't really get a sense of how it will really play on public servers.
 
Looks good! not sure i like the idea of the bomb cart dishing out health... but we will see.

They could have atleast changed the sound effects on the new needle gun...

Yeah I thought that, but I guess the amount given off will be pretty small. Otherwise it makes the medic on that map pretty worthless.
 



Well CP maps are already a damn spamfest. Sure, they got rid of grenades from TFC etc but instead, the average player count on servers has gone up from 16 to 24 and theres plenty of 32 man servers. Having 32 people fighting over 1 spot on the map seems retarded to me and of course, it ends up in a spamfest to see who wins.


Goldrush and other Escort maps are just like a CP map with only 1 cap point. This means you dont have people trying to sneak to the next point or anything like that to spread the players around. You just end up with 1 big group of players at the epicenter with all the respawners heading back there to die again asap :\

Having played the few custom ES maps out there, its spammy.

What about Football? lol I mean who the hell can take Football seriously? Bunch of overpayed noobs kicking a ball around?!




At the end of the day, any game/passtime/hobby can be competitive if theres enough people willing to play it and wanting to be the best. Clearly theres plenty of TF2 players that do this already. Just because you play it for fun doesnt mean you should assume others do the same!

Maybe so... but more often than not, 12v12 is still too spammy. Having 24 players in one area seems silly to me :(

You know what, I think hes right. Yes the defending team will have to place some sentries places, etc, but the sole objective of the attacking team is to all be in one place. The defenders will be fireing rockets and stickies into a croud of people, getting random kills with no skill.... and i also see absolutely no purpose for the Spy as a defence... or Scout...

No one is stopping players from playing in a league or clan, but the game wasn't made with competitions in mind. The biggest thing being critical hits, that people moan about so much.
