Damn pointless brightskins and loads of other crap.....
I swear its been made for blind, deaf people with all the hitsounds and stuff.
As if your crosshair flashing, huge explosions and lots of blood aren't enough to let you know you have shot someone....

Actually I just wanted it for the crosshairs. I agree the other stuff is not realy needed.

I've yet to buy this.

Was thinking of ordering it this afternoon, as I'm fed up waiting for a "proper" demo. (using google, I've only been able to find a Beta demo, which I guess wouldn't be as optimized as the full game)

In UT, UT2003/2004, you could play any map you wanted, purely against bots.. and actually, they were quite good (IMO)

I just wanted to check this is possible in UT3 too?

I know it's meant to have a dodgy single player campaign in there, but I'm not talking about that... I just mean, if you want to jump into a deathmatch, rather than go straight online, can you play purely against bots first, as with previous versions... and, are they any good?

If the answer is yes, I may order this, this afternoon.

Thanks for any input,
V1N.

(Performance anybody? On an 8800GT? DX10?)

The Beta Demo is very similar to the performance of the final version I'm pretty sure.

Yes you can play any map with bots. Instant action, same as UT2k4?

Thing is the A.I. is pretty bad atm, especially in vehicles.

Performance should be fine, with my system I get 100+ fps most of the time on max @ 1680x1050

It doesn't have any dx10 features iirc(?)

As I've said before the campaign isn't bad as it introduces you to the intracacies of warfare mode and gives you useful hints about each map while playing. Obviously it's not really a campaign in the usual single player sense but it's worth playing. :)

UT2k4 of course had the tournament single player mode. I liked the idea but there were too many decisions to make.. I didn't really want to make decisions, just get on with it. ;)

OK folks, I think you've convinced me.

Yeah, Instant Action, that was it. I used to love that, when I had a quick 10 mins spare here and there... just load it up for a quick blast.

I'll look forward to trying that with the new and improved UT :)

One other question though.
I remember after patches on UT2004, that one of them removed the blasted copy protection, that required having to leave the disk in. I HATE that ;)

Does UT3 require that you leave the disk in to run, or has the patch got rid of that (or better, did it never do that?)

I know I could probably search for a nocd, but it always annoys me that they can't just let us play direct off the HDD, like the pirates can!
Anyway, sorry, rant over, off to search for the best price.

V1N.

Nope you don't need the disc for UT3, even retail version.

Ah, brilliant. Why can't all games be like that?

Retail version? That never occured to me... hmm, though I guess it's cheaper to buy retail? (about £23) I've only ever bought full retail games online from Steam before.

Indeed, don't see why not tbh.

Not sure what you mean, but when I said retail version I just ment the version you have after buying it, without any patches or anything.

Ah, I was thinking retail version, compared to a version from a download service, like Steam.

EDIT: Ordered. :)
