Oh I love that photo :D

I can't believe Owen lay down on the ground and started posing to those people when there was a match to be played.

The reaction on the players and fans faces says it all.

Bad Bad Owen.

While I will never deny the fact it was a great goal, there have been countless better ones since then (and before it), so god only knows why it was picked. I'm guessing it was because of who scored it, rather than the quality of it.

I gotta agree with that

I agree too though.

If most other players had done the same thing, from their
own penalty box or even the car park, and they were blind folded
and turned the other way and locked in a steel box. Beckham
still would have won it with that goal.

Some of Matt Le Tiss's were far far better than Beckhams.
So was Ruud's against Fulham too, miles better.

Spot the odd one out in that photo.... look about two thirds of the way along, little way down - the guy in the yellow shirt. Is it just me or is his disappointed rather less marked than those surrounding him :)

Oh, and agreed about best goal, it was quality but then there have been so many good goals it's hard to pick a top 5 never mind a best single one. A couple that would be close for me:

why no team of the decade award.. ?

and jazz :) I'm sure you'll agree with me about the
fate of the title this season and tonights winner ;)

There's two of the, one dead on the left in the upper corner, and one on the right a little bit in. Both wearing yellow. And both very brave!

I can't believe people are slating the Beckham goal decision. He scored from his own half FFS!! The technique and vision to pull it off is incredible. It's not like it bounced into the goal. It shaved the crossbar on the way in. Now that is precision. DiCanio would struggle to do that IMO.

my 2p.

no one said it wasnt a good goal but there have been better goals, like DiCanios, Matt Le Tiss's even bergkamps goal last season in my biased opinion is better ;)

No-one has said it wasn't a good goal, just that there have been better goals. Maybe DiCanio wouldn't be able to do it, but you can bet everything you own that Beckham could never score some of the goals DiCanio has scored. Beckham could never score some of the goals Le Tissier scored.

Very good goal yes, but best of the decade? Never in a million years.

Players try it all the time and occasionally they drop in, Malcolm Macdonald at Newcastle once scored straight from the kick-off, is that goal of the century? No, because it was a fluke.

Matt Le Tissier scored 10 goals better than that, most of them against us :(

If you asked Beckham to do it again, he'd struggle. 99% of
the time he'd miss it. It was just a one off, he though "hey,
I'll give it a go". Have you ever seen him try it since ?

If he was that accurate with his shooting why does him
miss the most of his freekicks ?
