Hi all.

Am off to Marrakesh in a couple of weeks and am after some navigation software for my Nexus S. It's on PAYG so a data connection out there is not really an option, I normally use Google Maps - clearly useless without a data connection though!

I use CoPilot Live 8. Works great in the UK, but doesn't have maps for Morocco.

Copilot, Navigon and Sygic seem to be pretty popular on Android but neither have maps for Morocco. :(

Your best bet would be to install something like Maverick and pre-cache the area you'll be travelling in. It won't be turn-by-turn nav but you'll know what direction to go. That's all I can think of.

I'd install Maverick anyway tbh, it's excellent for hiking/walking - used it yesterday on an 8 mile trek through the forest.

Try one called maps(-) its free and does map caching. Has a paid version.

Have't been been able to test how GPS works as my phone has assisted gps so needs internet to get a fix...

maps(-) looks like it'll do it, what's the difference between the free and paid versions - I can't see much info?

No idea, I am using the free one. Its a good alternative to real maps for me (having ****e agps)

How do you pre-cache the maps? Just downloaded Maverick now, this will be really useful when travelling abroad

I require pre-cached maps for kuala Lumpur for holidays, but does that mean I have to zoom in and out and pan left and right for hours to get the whole of the city on Maverick!

I think me and OP needs to find a better way before wasting hours doing the above!

Yeah this is what I was thinking, anywhere / any app where you can just choose to download a city / area / country map?

Cheers will give that a go later, there is definitely a niche for a map app that does this easily though.

It is against the API t&cs to cache the tiles tho, so that is probably why there aren't many!!

mapdroyd worked for me in canada/alaska but is lacking in the option to get directions. shows you where you are and that's it :(
