ok so i was reinsalling the drivers for my his x1950pro agp on vista hp64 and i went off to make a cup of tea

when i got back to my pc my monitor just displayed "out of range" in a box

so i reset it and it loaded up but at the log on screen the screen goes blank and again the message "out of range" but i can still hear the start up sound

this happened before when i plugged in by hdtv and i know all it means is that the resolution is not supported by my monitor. last time i plugged in my old monitor and changed the res and fixed it. but neither monitor works this time and to plug in my hdtv i need to use s-video so i cant do that either

i can load up in safe mode, and i tried driver cleaner but i still get the same results, and i cant install any drivers in safe mode

im trying to find the system restore in vista but i cant

so....

any ideas?

any help at all appreciated :)

EDIT

ok i found the system restore, and no ******* restore points are found!! wtf???! i thought vista made one every time you installed something?

also when i try to install the drivers in safe mode i get the error "failed to load detection driver" if thats any help :(

- Download and install the trial version of Powerstrip (http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm) whilst in safe mode.
- Define a hotkey combination (e.g. CTRL+ALT+F1) to set the resolution to something basic (like 1024x768 - or another resolution which is definately supported by your monitor).
- Boot into windows normally, then press your defined hotkeys. Your display should set to the basic resolution which you have set up in Powerstrip.
- Set up to whatever your 'proper' / preferred resolution should be.

:)

Vista has a habit of setting to highest RES, reboot your PC, tap F8 function key as you do for SAFE MODE but in menu choice, choose VGA blab bla mode, it will boot up your PC to low RES and HZ (probably 800x600/60hz), you will need set your RES and HZ again in Control Panel.

ok i uninstalled my 1950, installed and uninstalled my 6800, and am currently installing the drivers but nothing is happening. the progress bar isnt filling  so im downloading 7.4 drivers and gonna see if they work

I had to do this myself last week.......

@ timmy1998, sometimes going from Nvidia to ATI or vice versa is a nightmare, even with driver cleaner that I think actually can break things lol, some have had to fully format PC.
