I've just applied for a £5k loan. Everyones got to start sometime right?

Basically I've had enough of buying old and decrepit cars and want something that will last me many years. My car is needing a few things done to it and I don't think it will last a whole lot longer so have put it up for sale.

The car that I am going for is...*drum roll*

Toyota Celica GT4, preferably in white or black. Oooh yes.

Yeah, i've thought about this but not very much to be honest.

I hadn't planned on spending the whole £5k on the car itself but had intended on keeping say a grand for any repairs and maintenance.

I earn a £1k a month and live at home with only £25 a week rent and car insurance so I think i'm covered.

You only life once though that's my way of thinking.

£1.3k a year for insurance, though I only have 1 years NCB and am 20 years old. Am 3 months into my 2nd year so won't have to put up with high insurance costs for a great deal longer.

Hopefully insurance premium should drop a fair bit more next year when I get 2 years NCB and am 21.

Just to add...

I'm still yet to be accepted/declined yet so fingers crossed.

Some of you are probably thinking, hang on a minute didn't he want an MR2 turbo just a few days ago? Yes is the answer but I read somewhere that the GT4 has the same engine so have done a insurance quote on one and it came back about the same price to insure.

Looked around for some on PistonHeads and they are a little cheaper to buy plus they have 4wd. I was a little concerned about driving a RWD with the engine in the back and just don't trust myself so thought the GT4 would be a more "sensible" option.

EDIT: Please don't turn this into another Rover debate, had enough of that already. Andy, you have a nice car mate, peoples opinions on it are going to differ, so don't take it to heart with what other people have to say.

Hi Sock, Simon isn't it?

Can't get insured on the 200SX or the Pulsar. VRS is too expensive to insure, not keen on the Cupra really and the Volvo is toooo big for my liking.

you cant get insured on a 200 or pulasr yet you can on a gt4 hows that work then.

No idea mate, that's insurance for you. Crap isn't it.

Anyone know why the GT4 has a little round intake thing on the bonnet next to the air scoop for the intercooler?

And what does TRD stand for? Toyota Race Designs? Vaguely remember it from Gran Turismo.

You take home £1k a month and pay £100 a month rent and still require a loan. Jesus.

No I could save but my car is not sounding healthy and requires work done to it and I don't want to spend anymore money on it.

Don't fancy getting a bus or train to work for a few months either so have opted for the a loan. I'll only be paying an extra £600 back to the bank.

Have you actually ran a quote for an Octy vRS?

According to Parkers, a Celica GT-Four is IG 17 and the vRS is 16. Surely if you can get a quote for a GT-Four you can get one for the vRS?

I have and it was like £2k.

Done a quote on an Accord Type R too and strangly enough it's only £1300 p/a to insure! What the hell.

Can get insured on an Audi S4 too but not on an Impreza or Evo - strange stuff.

I still want a GT4 but it's proving difficult to find a standardish one in a good colour with the anti-lag and spraybar (WRC).

My mind isn't completely made up as you can tell so am open to more suggestions.

I want something that isn't boring to drive.

I drive all the time just for the hell of it so want a 'drivers' car. Fiat coupe doesn't do anything for me at all and a Mondy doesn't do anything for me either really though I do like them. :)

Yeah I do want something that will be reliable, I don't mind forking out for maintenance and what not but on the other hand I want something fun. Something I will want to drive, I want to wake up in the morning wanting to drive to work. Sad I know but hey that's me.

The Accord Type-R is appealing more and more the more I think about it. :p

I went out in a friends Integra Type-R DC2 JDM which was incredibly nice, rather smooth which wasn't what I was expecting from it and incredibly revvy. The Accord isn't as revvy according to him (Honda nut or "spong" as he says lol). To quote him:

"Not quite as thrasy. More mature"

I'm prepared to put up with large fuel bills as I honestly don't mind spending at the fuel pumps...

Thanks for the input everybody, negative or positive it's much appreciated. :)

So you've applied for a loan before you even know what you want to buy?

Are you like a walking demonstration of how not to do cars or something? :p

I'm not 100% sure but I've got an idea of what I want. I'm not in that much of a rush to go out and get one. Sooner the better though mate.

I don't really want an Integra as it didn't really do much for me really, though there was three of us in the car so that hampered the experience somewhat.

Fox, I'm only going to be paying the bank £600-odd in interest over 3 years so it's not all that bad.

Vila, Prelude does absolutely nothing for me mate. Have driven a friends 2.2 VTEC JDM and it was rather dull IMO. Sure it went quite well but just didn't feel fun at all!

Guys my application for a loan has been approved in principle, haved signed it off and sent it to the bank this morning. Hopefully I should be getting the money any day now.

First car i'm gonna look at is an Accord Type R in red. If I like it, i'll most probably just buy it. I know I should look at just more than one but I'll probably fall in love with the thing straight away.

Should you not try more than one as how do you know its running ok?

It may seem fast as you are used to slower cars but is it proper Accord Type R fast?

My friend is true Honda nut who's had many different type Rs but not the accord, so he'll be coming with me.

It goes from 0-60 in 6.9s according to him which is plenty fast enough for me.

there's more to a car than it's 0-60 time, my young padwan leaner.

:p

Yeah I know, he just asked if it was fast and the only stat I know for the accord is the 0-60 :p

It has 212bhp with LSD aswell...

He means the one you are going to look at might not be all in the best health. You won't know whether it is down on power for the car unless you drive another.

Oh right. Well I've driven my friends 2.2 Prelude which shares the same engine as the Accord (H22). He'll be coming with me hopefully (the Honda spong).
