Take your knife, take its life

I've got a couple of resident spiders, one behind each wing mirror of my car. They often come out to say hi but over 40 they soon scoot back behind the mirror. Not as mean looking as that mother though :p

I'm amazed you'd not seen one of them before. We get LOADS, They are scum, they don't fit down the plug hole! lol

I had one of these mofos lower himself from the ceiling straight down towards my face when I was asleep. I woke up with him dangling about 20cm from my face. That is the 1st time a spider has made me near crap myself!!!

My gf is terrified of these ones, have to admit I'm not mad keen on them either! They are too fast and sometimes they don't fit under a glass without hurting their legs.

I saw a MASSIVE Dragonfly the other day. When I say massive, I don't mean 3-4 inches. I could see it about 20 meters away, and when it came towards me  it looked like it was about 18" in size.

I had to run away from it...as you do. ;):o

18 inches? Probably not possible nowadays. I think they don't have a good enough system of oxygen distribution to get that big in the current atmosphere, although I suppose there could be some with oversized wings. It probably looked bigger than it really was when it was coming at you.

Way back, during a period when the oxygen content of the atmosphere was higher, there were dragonflies two feet in size that could eat small birds.

I had one exactly the same as the one pictured in my house last night! It sure did give up a fight when we caught it, at one point it made a mad dash for freedom and boy was it quick! Took some quick reactions to capture it! Unfortunately we released ours back outside and ever since ive regretted it because its only a matter of feet from my bedroom window and could well be back living amongst us here!
If you release it close to someone else's house, it will probably go there instead.

Anyone in your street that you're not too fond of?

That thing seems huge!

Do you know if its fangs can puncture our skin?

Yes, you will die if if bitten. I give you 14 seconds to live if bit. Best thing you can do is move planet. I suggest Pluto, maybe Uranus, that way you can be sure not to be eaten by the great house spider.

Doesn't really hold the record as fastest spider in the world then does it
Krisboats, save your 's for Wikipedia because that's where the 'facts' come from. Off you go!

I generally let spiders run over my hands, even big garden ones
Why would you do that?:confused::eek:
Mostly do it so my kids have no fear of creepy crawlies. My two boys now handle anything, even wasps [when held correctly]. We even go on bug hunts our local park ranger provides monthly. Kids love it.

Harmless. They are poisonous and can bite as most spiders can but they present no danger to humans or pets. You wouldn't know if it tried to bite you. Not like my ******* hamster the other day.

lol hamster bites hurt a lot.

Every night when my parents have gone to bed, and im downstairs watching a film or something, there is always 2 massive spiders, both about 3cm long body size, and huge legs coming off than run from under the sofa to under the TV stand lol, i just let them be because there not doing anything annoying.

But about a month ago, i stood up and a similar one came running from underneath the sofa and starting running at me lol.

Ugg thanks for that, I suffer from Arachnophobia and everyone has gone away for the weekend, hope to god I don't find one of those around here :(

In WW2 the Germans should ahve Dropped Spiders on the UK instead of bombs.

You lot would have surrended after the first air raid:p

um, camel spider? i saw a biggy the other day but its abdomen was smaller than the one you posted up. its leg span was bigger.

i hate the spiders with like, a pea sized body, with really thin legs and tall, they look like something off the cover art of war of the worlds. lol

That's a nasty one! It's been a long time since i've seen one 'very' big.

What do you, people of OcUK think scares you the most about spiders? I think for me it's something about their legs, there's just too many of them! And the speed, if I ever got the courage to pick one of the big house spiders up I'd be scared it would dart off down my sleeve or something before I could do anything about it.

Money spiders are cool though :D

Yeah I know what you mean, the big HAIRY tarantulas don't actually scare me, they look more cuddly and fuzzy than regular house spiders, I've also never seen one up close that actually got up to any speed.

One time when I was about 6/7, when my sister was working at the local pet shop, she brought home a skin that a chilian rose tarantula had shed, my mum had it in the car in a box, when I got in I saw it and went 'ARGHHGHG!', she could have at least warned me :D

ive never actually met a tarantula, but as you said they do look furry and soft. so they seem to pose less of a threat t ome than other spiders (although if someone presented one to me now as a suprise out of a box id probably brick it). we found a false widow in our garden the other day though. ive never seen a spider like that before. needless to say i didnt pick it up and scare the missus with it :p

Was on holiday, just about to go to bed then I see this 'little' guy, was too scared to remove it myself and too much pride to ask anyone else to remove it for me, didn't sleep one bit.

It's soo big when I took a picture of it, it's eyes flash urgh... To try and get some scale of how big it is look at the size of the cd cases and it's body and legs, its huge!

There's three giant house spiders in my room, these spiders are actually generally very docile and don't like to bother the actual residents - all they want to do is catch flies and smaller spiders.
