Oh no...spec me!

Hows this look? Just add in a cooler, which depends on how much you plan on clocking, this system will do your for a good while though
Note though that the CPU, RAM and gfx are all on TWO so buy quick :)

not within the budget but if youre really really nice to your missus the i7 bundle at 500 quid plus a gfx card and HDD as above = 500 + 165 + 40 = 705, be really nice :D

@ 95thrifles...she'd have my balls mate :(

@ siumatfung...nah, the 8800 did me good, but definately need a new card, just liked the idea of the I7, would rather get the AMD though and a damn good gfx card. How much future proof would the 4850 give me though, whats the likelyhood of running new games at full res in 12 months. I should add I like all the bells and whistles, AA and all that stuff turned on :)

there is room for improvement but you should be looking to spend the leat amount of money maybe you could pick up a 2nd 8800Gt on the cheap(less than 60£) for the mean time till your next upgrade

That 1st spec won't work, because the phenom II 940 doesn't support AM3 + or DDR3. It needs to be run in an AM2+ board with DDR2. Only the newer Phenom X3 720, X4 810 etc support DDR3.
Secondly, you can save money by getting An AM2+ board and DDR2 memory for ANY of the CPU's, because they all support DDR2. I'd be inclined to do it that way if you go for phenom II.

are you selling your 8800Gt? which model is it? but the 4870 is the card to go for i was thinking more on your budget buddy cos u can jus add a 2nd card when u upgrade your mon

if you get lucky you be able to unlock the 4th core theres a thread about read it last week but you have to buy the 790G chipsets of something for the mobo

Should have done my research, just assumed the phenom 2's were like the I7's and geared just towards DDR3...still plenty of life in DDR2 then?

If I was building a system 3 months ago Id of said sitck with DDR2, the price difference was quite large, now though theres little difference so imo go DDR3

Given me a lot of stuff to think about guys, not as clear cut a decision as i thought.

Have another question though, just checked and my PSU is 600W, is this going to be a problem for a newer gfx card?

If you decide on the sunbeam cooler mentioned above. Double check that it will fit before you buy. Its a monster. Lucky for me OC took it back even though I had already applied thermal paste.
