Oh to be rich!

Can appreciate the vintage, nostalgic appeal here. Heck even the fact that it's a classic is big deal. Add the fact that it's basically brand new could make it tempting.
But 65k on an Escort?
Yu mad bruh?!

Its a classic and attracts the ford scene tax, but you would think a 65k car would have a slightly better advert than that.

If I were rich, I think a Ford Escort may be one of the last cars I'd think to buy... :p

I do know a lot of wealthy petrol heads and most of them have a nice selection of exotic stuff but also some nice "of our generation" cars. If you get to that point they tend to buy the latest greatest or historically special cars but also seek out the cars that in our youth we all wanted.

RS2000, Mini Coopers, 205's, Clio Williams, Group B cars, Group A homologation specials, Rally special etc etc.

Honest question, was the escort mk1 actually as good as the scenetax suggests? I see hot Fords and even mild ones of my youth (80's) starting to really shootup in price and if im honest I didnt think the XR3i was actually all that good, esp if you compare to its competition.

mk1 and mk2 escort are RWD, lots of rally/race wins during their era. XR3i's are FWD and meh. But they are on the up also as they have all rusted away.

mk1's are a great drivers car.

I loved Fords, the early ones like this especially.

They said, if (I wish!) I had £65k burning a hole in my pocket, the list of things I'd rather have is nigh endless.

Classic example, I know of someone with a 3door Cosworth Sierra, it's a lovely thing and mildly modified (circa 350 bhp), he's spent nigh on £30k buying and putting it right.

He also has an e39 M5 which stands him about £15k, the Sierra is his garage queen the BMW his plaything and it destroys the Ford in every respect - as arguably it should - he's looking to replace the Sierra once he can get £40k for it, which in time he most likely will.

The Sierra is an investment where the M5 ticks his enthusiast boxes.

He says it himself that the Sierra doesn't justify its value, the Ford scene tax is getting ridiculous.

The Sierra is appreciating yet the vastly superior- and equally IMO classic M5 is barely going anywhere value wise yet, another 10years and that situation should change, but nowhere near the levels attained by Fords...

As much as I like those old Escorts, some of them go for silly money for what is quite a simple machine, there was that Escort Mexico that was up for silly money a while ago.

I wouldn't pay 65k, but the car itself is a very sound example of an amazing historic vehicle. It will only go up in value if purchased at the right price, sticker price is a dream, and I wouldn't buy it with my only cash, this would be lottery winnings expenditure haha (so never).

If I wanted a Mark 1 Cosworth I would build it myself to my specs, but those BDA's sound amazing, and a modified mark1 with a cossie engine is never going to reach the value of the original RS.

Having done some rallying in a mk2, unless you have driven a sorted rwd escort off road, you will never appreciate just what an amazing car they really are.
