I just dropped my portable usb hard drive and now it seems to have stopped working. The drive spins up, makes some clicking sounds and then spins down and isn't recognised by windows.

Looks like it's died...can you open up the casing? See the extent of the damage?

Just opened up the casing, nothing visibly wrong with the drive. It was one of these so I could try RMA'ing it as I've only had it for 4 months ish.

I don't think you'll be able to RMA it as you broke it unfortunately.

It was only a three feet drop in a protective caddy, I would expect a drive to survive that, does any one know about western digitals RMA service?
