A leading police commissioner has revealed that hate crime regulations forced his officers to question an elderly woman for beeping her horn at another car.

Anthony Stansfeld, the police commissioner for Thames Valley, has called for a review of current rules after the elderly lady was quizzed under caution because the driver just happened to be black.

Speaking about the case, he said that the woman is a 'pillar of society' in his community and was left devastated after she had to be investigated on suspicion of a hate crime because she honked at the other car for 'taking ages' at the petrol station.

Ah, good old UK police never failing to amuse in recent times. :p They've become a joke, a meme... Will anyone ever take them seriously again?

That quotation is false per your Times link... it wasn't just because the driver happened to be black. It's because an accusation about a hate crime was made.

The reason is irrelevant. Beeping your horn at someone should never result in you being questioned by police.

So the black gets out of the car and shouts abuse at an elderly couple, then goes on to waste police time and it's the innocent party that gets questioned under caution? Yeah, right. And they wonder why people think the police are a joke these days.

What if the person in question said that they'd been racially abused, rather than merely tooted at? Presumably you don't know the specifics of the complaint made? If you do, care to tell us?

Then I imagine the commissioner would have said that. It's a pretty important detail to leave out.

If as portrayed in the story, that all hate crime claims including trivial ones are required to be investigated it sounds like extraordinary direction of police resources.

How much scepticism is required for this one.

This story is a joke. But I've always wondered what defines a hate crime? Surely any crime is a hate crime? If I were to punch someone, steal from them, burgle their house or even just shout abuse at them then I'm not particularly loving them that that moment.

I wonder if the black "driver" is of the snow flake minority. Anyone of a non-white skin colour needs to just stop assuming that everyone else is a racist, or causing hate crimes.

It's clear this woman was beeping cause the stupid man was taking ages. It wouldn't have made any difference if he was black, white, yellow or red!

Pro tip: if you refer to someone as "The black", then chances are that you are racist.

If you had said "The black driver" then that's not racist.

Here you go: clear and concrete explanation /s

Anyway, as I read the story the police commissioners issue is that regulations have removed the power of discretion from the police and if someone says "racism" there's a whole extra set of procedures that kick in. Which is typical of the sort of top-down micro-management that kicks in when politicians are seeking soundbites like "has tackled racism in our society" or similar.

Hate crime is, for the most part, a flawed idea.

Stupid woman, apparently: "She was taking ages fiddling around and the lady who was driving, who was in her seventies, peeped on the horn and out flew an Afro-Caribbean lady who screamed abuse at them, went into the kiosk and reported it as a hate crime."

I think the White driver should "Countersue". She should make an official complaint that the fact that the Black driver accused her of a racially motivated hate crime was a racially motivated hate crime against her!

I wonder how many layers can be put on this cake before every bodies heads explode!

:p

Well, if the elderly woman had been Black then she wouldn't have been accused of racism. She was only questioned because she was White. So... basically everyone is guilty. Which I think is the desired outcome of the people who push Identity Politics anyway, so at least they'll be happy.¹

This is what happens when you have subjective 'crimes' based on the feelings of the supposed victim and a generation of hypersensitive crybabies masquerading as adults, with the police seen as their mummy. When Brexit happens we need to get rid all of this nonsense and free up the police to deal with actual crime and re-train them if necessary.
