Oil change using 'PELA' device.

I have used on of these the last couple of services on my cars. Easy enough to do, including with a filter change.

If the oil is well spent, just make sure the engine / oil is hot first as it comes out much easier.

Oh and make sure you get a good quality one and not one of the cheap alternatives.

Heard about cheap ones of these snapping their ends off in the sump. beware!

Yeah that is a worry. But I am pretty sure they rubbery hose type things, like silicone.

Another benefit of them is the car is level. If you do oil changes at home to get the car level to ensure you get all the oil out means you have to jack the front and back up. Otherwise your engine is at a wonk and some remains in the rear of the engine.

I noticed this last time I did my diesel that is suppose to take 4 litres, only about 3 came out despite being at the top level and only took 3 to refill. That included the filter.

Been using one of these since 2008. Great device. Wasted slightly on the E60 530d as it takes 7.8 litres of oil so won't fit all in the Pela. I drain first and drop the last bit. Never had a problem on older / other cars and it does do a pretty damn good job. Remove the filter whilst this is sucking too.

Funnel makes it easy. I used to use a tray I got from Tesco in a hurry, on the cheap, for a long time and only stopped when I accidentally lowered a car down on it and crushed it

I looked into these some time ago, but went with a 12v oil pump in the end. Same concept though.
Both our cars have their filters easily accessible under the lid, so oil changes are easy as peas. Just need to make sure that the oil is reasonably warm, else it tends to take a while.

I have the same one shown in the OP and it's excellent. Very good way of changing the oil as it's no faff and no mess. Also eliminates the risk of threading the sump plug/not torquing it correctly. I used it a lot with my 318.

You do need to get the oil hot, otherwise it will be nearly impossible to use. If you have an oil filter which is accessible from the engine bay (E.g. BMWs), then it is a no brainer.

I have found, to be fair, that less oil seems to come out than it should, and, once it's been used for a while, its virtually impossible to tell the oil level inside the pump as it's so dirty.

This is very true, I was worried about getting my oil too hot and ended up trying to get it out when barely warm... took about 40 minutes!
