Hi peeps

I asked my local garage who did the oil change this year what oil i need to get for my 51 reg fiesta, They said i can keep topping it up with any 10/w40 oil

When I look on halfords oil searcher it seems to show 5w30 or 0w40

Can someone clarify what I actually need?

Thanks

I think its 5w-30, acea A1 spec, check with the handbook though. If that is correct the Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 A1 will be fine.

In your handbook it should have a ford spec the oil must meet, (eg VWs have VW507.00) check this against what it says on the oil bottle

It has to be 5/30, get the stuff thats in these drained out and go with a synthetic or semi synth oil, semi synth seems better for older engines

ok thanks guys

I will try and find the manual just to check what it sais in there.

What should I do, will using the current stuff be that bad for it?

My dad is getting his MOT done today from him and I am taking him there, do I have the right to say something about this, is it wrong for him to put this in? is the stuff hes used just some random generic oil? Or should I just get the oil then I take it to a garriage to get it changed?

Thanks for all your responses

I'd be pretty annoyed if the garage just stuck any old oil in my car, Zetec engines are really fussy with their oil. I'd ask them to change it with the correct grade.

typical garage then. 10w40 could easily be acea a1, but it will be the wrong viscosity, definately try and get them to put the right stuff in. not worth the agro if it all goes wrong

hence diy for the win

ok guys,

Checked a few sites, some seem to say will be ok, some not. It does sometimes seem jumpy? after changing gear as if you havent put enough throttle down, only rearly. Some seem to say this is a sign of wrong oil?

I trust you guys 100% though so I will see what I can get done about this.

My Father and I both have Zetec-S engines in our cars and we always use 5/30 and we've never had an issue. Try not to drive the car with that oil and get it drained and filled up with the right stuff ASAP.

I've been driving it for a couple of months with it, only noticed now as I just want to buy some for the future as it seems to get eaten rather quickly.

It got filled up twice last year i think it was with oil, for around 8000 miles.

I've been topping it up with 5/30

I can't be responsible for garages put in before I bought the car, even since I have been using 5/30 consumption has gone down. I have only had the car for 2 months, my previous car also had a zetec.

I can safely say the issues I have are not caused by 5/30 oil and more to the fact that the wrong oil was used.

Is high oil usage a sign of the wrong oil then guys?

Like i said he topped it up twice last year when most people I speak to don't have to till its services!, no dout with this stuff, Don't know if they checked what was in it before though..

10W-40 is ok for top up in the Zetec engine.

The 5W-30 A1 recommendation is mainly for fuel economy benefits. Using a 10W-40 is certainly better than running low on oil and 1 litre in a sump fill of 4.5l will not have much of an effect on viscosity.

Stick to 5W-30 A1 for full oil changes though
