How much oil does your car use? Sometimes mine goes on for miles and miles and sometimes I find it shoot down. Same driving style.

Its an 04. In the first year is used hardly anything, after than I am going through about 2 litres for every 10k miles. Its only a 1.4 (VW Polo). Doesn't sound much but when the longlife (sounds like UHT milk!) costs £13 a litre it just a pain.

In the time I've owned the car, it's used absolutely nothing

Old car used to use a litre a month due to a leaky sump gasket.

edit... A 1.4 Polo shouldn't be using any oil at all.

My fiesta goes through a lot. I find that it's good for ages and stays at roughly the same level then suddenly it just drinks it all and ends up below minimun! The Clio is pretty good on oil but i've not had much experience in it.

My A6 TDI has used 1.5 litres in its first 6,000 miles. I don't drive it gently though.

My very first car, a 1997 Mondeo with 100k when I bought it, didn't use a drop of oil in well over 10,000 miles.

Mondeo used no oil, ever.

530 uses about a litre every 6-7k I guess. Which from other posts by BMW owners is one of the more frugal figures for the M54 engines - woman at works 2.2 Z4 lease car uses a litre every 1500 miles

They are known for using oil - BMW says anything up to a litre per 600 miles is within spec which to me sounds a bit unacceptable.

VW say the same about their cars, 1000km for a Litre.

I had the same thing with my Alfa. It would use about a litre every 1000 miles even after a full rebore and new rings. If I drove it gently I would practically no oil usage whatsoever.

My Prelude VTEC engine uses about 500ml per 2000 miles (or, in other words, the rest of what's left in the 5l bottle once I change it every 3000 miles)

Well that goes without saying.

What do you mean by that?

my good old rover 200 and mini cooper use none at all, or at least the level doesn't drop between there once a year oil changes.

if i had a new car that was drinking 2litres every 10k miles i would be mighty tempted to hand it back.
