Right I've followed Cavemanoc's expert tips, and got my 2 maxtor atlas 15k drives a running. One problem I do have is that the array isn't coming up under 'my computer', why is this? I have HDTac installed yet that see's the array and manages to bench it.. so what gives? My samsung 200gig drive has 13ms access and 51 meg/sec read times, The scsi array gives 6 ish ms access and 118 meg/sec, also has 180ish on burst.

I've never setup a controller card before, aside from sata lol, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.. Cave if you read this, can u go through what I need to do step by step after pressing ctrl M at startup? Either that of give me a link somewhere? Cheers in advance mate.

Woohoo - success! If you've got into windows then things are going well!

You need to initialise the new logical drive that you've set up on the scsi card in windows though Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management (Phew) Right click on the new drive and set it up as an active partition with a quick format to NFTS!

Takes a few seconds then should work - biggest problem usually is you DVD drives will have snaffled the Decent drive letters and your new Scsi will be relegated to the dirty end of the alphabet - you can rearrange them but this might mess up your installed games if they look in the wrong place for your CD's!

Other than that you should be golden!

In the Ctrl M section you can play with all the fun scsi settings and change things like writeback / writethru and the stripe size - best bet is to try it, bench it, try it again - I've pretty much left them as is, but have upped the stripe size to 128Kb

HDTach is widely derided as rubbish for benching scsi so a new tool might be in order - TBH apart from Intel's IOMeter they all seem rubbish in different and boring ways, and IOMeter requires you to actually understand what it's doing, and I CBA'd to do that so I think Atto was about the best middle ground - I was just happy that in HDTach it showed some improvement - the real joy comes from playing something like BF" and being 1st onto the Map or even better now is Gothic 3 where mere sata users suffer lag and slow loads and we don't - almost worth buying just to stress your new toy!

If you want help with the finer settings give me a shout - I've got some nice shiny pictures of the Ctrl-m menu to share and can point to some people who actually understand this stuff :p

thank the lords for you cave!! Yeah I was well excited when it all started up too!! I understand now why it wasn't coming up with the drive under windows.. still not sure why mine is so much slower than yours, I'll have a play with the settings like you said, btw any links to some freebie disk speed proggies? Atto? Also, when you press print screen (for a screenshot of desktop) where the bloody hell does it save them? lol..

TY again bud.

PS 15k disks have a very interesting whine lol, still that'll be well hidden by the vapo ls gurgle :P

Lol! - goes to the clipboard so a 'paste' into your favourite editor should do it!

Have you got the new HDTach (3.0.1.0) - can't think of any other reason for the slowdown? You've not got anything running in the background have you - worth a defrag too - give me 2 secs and I'll dig out all the benchy links!
