I would rather connect it to my PC monitor rather than my TV as this is where my modem is. How do I use it with my PC speakers? Do I need special cables?

Monitor - BenQ FP241W

Speakers - Creative Inspire 5300

Ok, from reading around am i right in saying that your monitor supports HDMI? If so then all you nead is a cheap £5 HDMI cable.

The speaker cables will be a bit more complicated, there are several solutions you could try but personally i would use one of these:

Tis called a 3.5mm jack to twin phono socket

Basically plug the supplied PS3 audio cable into the twin phono sockets, then either plug the 3.5mm jack into the rear of your speaker set, or plug it into the line-in of your PC and tell it to output the audio through the speakers.

[EDIT] Lowrider has come up with a better solution that will allow you to plug both the PS3 and PC into the speakers at once, see below.

As far as I can see your only be able to get stereo sound from the PS3 using those speakers, to do this it should just be a case of plugging the HDMI into your monitor coming from your PS3 and also plugging in the supplied composite cable into the back of your PS3 and make sure in the 'audio output settings' menu you have 'Scart/AV Multi' selected so you can use the left & right (red & white) phono's leads for your sound, now I'm guessing you'll want to continue using your speakers with your PC also so this will require the use of a couple of things,

A 3.5mm Stereo Jack to 2 x RCA/Phono - Left & Right Audio

Adapter (1)

and a 3.5mm jack splitter

Adapter (2)

EDIT - <waves fist @ streeteh>, didn't notice your post as I was busy researching what was needed :-(

would this only work if the PC was on?

How would I do it with the PC off?

I want the PC off method, So looking at those adapters, Red and White PS3 cable to the RCA jack, then what? I can't plug anything into my subwoofer(where the speakers are connected) as it has no line-in, only outputs.

EDIT:

It's ok, ust looked at the woofer lol

that should work thanks :) lol

Errr, if it only has outputs, where do you plug your PC in? :p

What lowrider is saying is plug this into your front Left+Right channel input for your speakers:

Then plug your PC into one of the sockets, and this into the other socket:

And finally plug your PS3s red+white phonos into the above.

This will have your PC and PS3 connected to the speakers at once and will allow for audio output from the PS3 when the PC is turned off.

[EDIT] Bah, just saw your edit, well, there's an exact guide above for yoo :p

Killzone 2
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Little Big Planet
Metal Gear Solid 4
Resistance 2
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
Wipeout HD
Motorstorm Pacific Rift
Warhawk
Rockband
Street Fighter IV
Ratchet + Clank Tools of Destruction
Valkyria Chronicles

You owe it to yourself to play those games! As far as i can tell none of them are available on the PC so you're missing out on some of the best available, at least two of those go in my top 10 games ever list (Metal Gear Solid 4 + Valkyria Chronicles). I bought a 8800GT shortly before i got my PS3, i only ever used my PC for the crysis games and the occasional game of TF2 now and then since then. I also bought the 8800GT on a whim and thought nothing of it but ummed and ahhed about the PS3 for a couple of months. Thank god i made the decision to buy it, really the best gaming related purchase i've made in years.

For £9 it's fantastic. People are paying as much as £50 for them on ebay.

....removed, you should know better......

[EDIT] Oh and SF4 is utterly epic. We're gonna be starting the 3rd PS3 tourney in the next week or so so get involved!

i have the same audio setup, when the pc is on.. it's as if the ps3's audio is halved and i have to up my speakers to the max, when the pc is off, the audio is as normal..

:)

if you have a hi-fi close to the ps3 you can get incredible sound from it using the supplied cables(if the hi-fi has inputs that is), even with headphones on the sound is great but when you take the headphones off OMG

its true about just stereo from them speakers, couldnt figure if i was doing something wrong or the dell monitor pass through was causing the problems, ended up buying a pair of thx 5.1's

well i'm home, I bought the PS3!!! brand new one as well for £299 with KZ2 had to buy a HDMI cable with it. Oh and I also got SFIV of course.

It's bloody heavy isn't it! My arm is dead now.

Ok gonna have lunch and set it up later.

Two very good games to start off with too. While i'm sure it's nothing compared to what a GTX280 can put out, killzone 2 is a very pretty game with great gameplay to boot.

My opinion of Killzone 2 is somewhat stale now due to how much the online is revolving around rockets and spawn camping but yeah the single player is a good ride still. :p

SF IV is a blast, great game.

just played through the arcade mode on medium 3 round matches and beat Seth first time lol. you really have to think fast after the first time you beat him don't you lol :)

I'm having trouble doing my Ultra combos with ken though, I really need 6 thumb buttons or a fight stick.

played online for a few games, won 2 lost 3. I really don't like the gaps in the d-pad. Can I use any USB pad with the PS3?
