Alright,

I LIKE-

simple, straightforward, fps games.

I hate RPG's, and walking around, and scary things.

but since a mate got it for me, Im installing it.

What can I expect? I hear your stuck in a stupid dungeon at the start and it takes ages to get out?

You can get out of the dungeon in less than an hour if you want to, it really depends on how you play the game. If you only like games that are linear and straightforward though, then I suspect you won't enjoy Oblivion, you'll probably wander around lost for a while before giving it up. I will suggest that you perservere though, it's one of the best games I've ever played, it's well worth getting into.

Thanks,

Did you get my email before davey? Never got a reply.

Yeah, I got to the part where there was some rat killing me, got bored and left, Ill play a bit later lol.

Also, what spec is your computer? You're going to enjoy it even less if you step outside and are getting like 5fps :p

The dungeon at the start isn't scary, so don't worry about that. I'm a bit of a jessy when playing games, so trust me on that one.

The perspective is FPS and the combat's quite a lot more visceral than its predecessors (whacking giant rats in mid-air is GREAT). You don't have to worry about rolling D20 dice either: all the RPG elements are fairly hidden.

Plus the walking around isn't too bad if you hate that sort of thing as you can generally just do quests and use the new fast travel option if you like.

It's probably not the ideal game for you, but I think there's a fair chance you'll like it if you give it a go. :)

The rat scared you? Even I'm not that bad.

Surely it's no scarier than most FPS games? Unless you're a Nerf Arena player or something? :p

Should run fine on your setup. Make sure you do the nvidia tweak that's been posted first though.

I am in same boat as OP.

RPG's, especially Fantasy ones just don't float my boat.

I just *had* to get this game though to see what all the fuss is about.

I have to admit just the intro itself won me over to a large degree, haven't been so impressed since HL1's intro.

Only played it for an hour so far but certainly going to invest some time to see if I can become accustomed to this genre.

I like the fact that the RPG side of things is not too in your face and the fighting is "real". :D

I wouldnt actually agree there, i found that Oblivion guides you pretty well through the main story quest and as a result i loved it. Im one of those people that hated Morrowind as i had absolutely no idea what i was meant to be doing. I like rpgs that are story driven rather than open ended, Morrowind was too open ended, and didnt like Daggerfall much either. Never played Arena. Battlespire was so buggy i never got into it. Still got them so i may give them another go on the stength of Oblivion.

Once you've finished the main story in Oblivion, you'll be familiar enough with the game not to worry about the open endedness of it once you've no longer got a story to drive you along. I've finished the main quest, just bought a house and have done a few of the dungeons that i discovered along the way that i didnt do when on the main quest. I'll go out on a huge expedition at some point to try and find a few more things of interest.

i'm another that got the game to see what all the fuss is about, struggling so far to get into. Can only play it for about 30 mins at a time as nothing seems to happen, currently have just gone through an oblivion gate & trying to rescue some dudes from freaky goblin people but the combat is a bit dull.

I would say you found it like that simply because of the way you played it. The game doesn't force you to do anything. Sure, it tells you where to go when you have an active quest, but you can play for hours and hours on end without even touching a quest. It's a completely personal decision whether you do the main quest, or simply go exploring in the countryside looking for Elven Ruins, Vampire Hideouts, or the infamous Unicorn. You play it your way, which is why I'm enjoying it so much.

I'm the same, don't usually play these RPGs,but i have to admit,i'm starting to get into it a bit now.Looks stunning as well :D

Woohooo got out of the dungeon, went outside, now what?

Its very laggy, its like Im on a game with bad internet connection. Graphics dont look very good too.

Just killed a deer and killed a bat thingy and saw a cave and was very bored about going in. So i allowed that .

??

I'm in the same boat here, never got on with morrowind but liked Guild wars loads(RPG in my eyes). I only play fps's or tiger woods so I'm hoping to get into this when my copy turns up. I have know idea why I've ordered this which is how it seems for a lot of people in my boat(preety big boat me thinks)

Similar boat to those above here. Never really got into RPG games - Morrowind, Dues Ex & KotOR all failed to win me over. I'm also a nancy when it comes to scares. But I gotta say, Oblivion has my rapt attention.

** POSSIBLE SPOILERS **

The dungeon didn't seem to take that long and I wasn't running my way through it. One of the goblins did give me a willies when he jumped from an unseen alcove. I've now played my way through and delivered Sean Bean to the hidden keep. I've decided to stop following the main quest for a while and check out some of the smaller quests. I've since joined the Dark Brotherhood and pulled off a couple of sneaky murders and spent some time in jail (note to self - never steal a horse in plain view of the owners)
