When i boot bf2 it says in the center of the screen 'unknown mode' which is annoying me and it stays on through game play, now it does the same on Madden 07 but that changes eventually and allows me to play without the 'unknown mode' in the center.

Now i dont have a clue what the hell is causing it and it never used to do it before... does anyone know why it may be doing this?

Sounds like a monitor issue to me, maybe it can't handle the resolution that is set from within the games?

Its only started doing it sinse i installed it this time, never had problems before, it 1st started doing it with madden when i got a s-video cable so i can play on my tv when i want a bigger screen.

Can you change the refresh rate at all?

Mine can have 60hz AND 75hz. Not sure if this will be of any help, try changing it maybe.

what does that do? i can change it to the following...

60, 70, 72 and 75 and its at 75 atm...

refresh rate is a setting for CRTs which changes the number of times per second the screen refreshs, the lower the number, the more flickery the display becomes.

of course LCDs refresh each pixel individually, so the setting is meaningless for TFTs, but most TFTs will be set to 60hz. Some can only accept 60hz so try that.

I have... the screen still does it, what the hell can i do? I have a feeling that the screen is on its way out now :) it is like 3 year old.

modify your shortcut to boot BF2 into a different resolution.

try starting it in 1024 x 768 or something lower and see if that removes the "unsupported resolution" thing ?

it looks like it might be 'new monitor' time for you mate.

How long have you had it and what make/model is it? perhaps they are known to have issues.

have you used any graphics tweaking tools?

maybe rivatuner or manually set things in your graphics card resolution settings (advanced settings)

used reforce?

any of these could be enforcing wrong refresh rates

I havnt changed anything, the only thing i have changed is the dual screens as i sometimes have my pc running through my tv, when i watch movies etc...

is your pc screen still set as the primary display device?

disable the tvout and do some testing..

do you have any more screens you can test with?

I dont have any more i can test with, only a crapy CRT and its too much trouble to bing up, plus it dosnt always happen ony randomly, i doubt its a gfx issue...

It does it whether both screens are plugged in or not...
