well... after a year or 2 of one of my ssd's being held together by bluetack, the "surround" that the sata lead plugs into has now snapped (sadface).

so it looks like:

now, i have a usb to sata / sata power lead, that comes with samsung ssd's which has a "connector block" that works fine as it just holds in place on the ssd, but its only got a few inches of cable, and tbh, i dont want an external ssd.

i cant get a sata lead to stay in there, no matter how much blutac i use now as it hasnt got the bit of plastic to hold it in or hold the pins rigid.

so im coming to you for any ideas?

can you buy the connector block thingies which are basically straight through connector so i can plug the normal cables back in?

You will be wanting a SATA Combo Power and Data Cable then, i cant see any on OcUk but they are pretty common if you look in the usual places.

What did you do with the bit of plastic?

I bought a ssd as broken in the same state about 2-3 years ago.

I reattached the broken plastic support after some careful tweaking of the broken areas with a fine blade and very light application of epoxy.

In theory you can rob another sata connection of the plastic bit but it will need even more tweaking to get it to match the broken point on the drive.

aaah, the bit of plastic has long gone into the depths of my boxes of bits. im guessing its stuck in one of my sata cables or something!

that sata combo thing looks like it will do the trick, its what i was hoping to find :D

this SSD is a true soldier.

tbh, this ssd is bent battered and bruised from a good many years miss use, i bought it when it first came (11th nov 2010 by the looks of it) so it doesnt really owe me anything.

Tbh mine was self inflicted too.

Pulled out the Power cable to aggressively and it removed half of the plastic exposing the pins, luckily the part of plastic stayed in the power cable from the PSU so it was just a case of connecting it back up and using electric tape to hold it in place

im wondering if the end is stuck in one of my sata leads myself tbh... i have that many though and have given that many away over the last couple of years, the chances of finding it would be slim :/

the plastic block looks like it unclips if you press the indents in,in the pic?

if you could get hold of another and clip it back in over the existing pins

I'd checked that already buddy it looks like the pins are soldered to the pcb though so you can't get the clip off without desoldering everything (which I cba to do atm)
