OK whats wrong now

They're lower, did you remove the already installed drivers in safe mode? If not try again in safe mode, if you did clean everything go to start->run and type dxdiag.exe in the box. I can't remember what the options in there are but you should be able to save a log to the desktop. Open that up and copy paste the log into a post here. I gotta shoot for half an hour so I'll give it a read when I get back if nobody else has been able to take a look by then.
 
Yeah I'm heading out for an hour or 2. Thanks to everyone that contributed. When I get back I will take Hairybudda's advice and will then try Furmark again!

Would love to get this sorted. Im not loving my reasonably high end machine playing like a £200 laptop at the moment!
 
don't use drivercleaner. it could delete more than it should.

download gpu-z and check the pci-e speed , also the core/memory clock speeds.

if that all ok then maybe u should reinstall windows.

go into the BIOS, turn off onboard sound (HD Audio), try the tests again with sound turned off. Also get the latest sound driver as the one you have is old and not up-to-date.

Good spot. Looks like your drivers are seriously out of date. If you uninstall them completely and re-install the version 9.10 drivers from the link I posted (you might need to download them again) then things should improve.
 
Well I'm back (couple more hours than I originally thought) :)

Just seen that comment by dragy2k... I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers wonder why it hasn't changed?

Stupid question but I have never done it before... How do I uninstall the old drivers?

The 'normal' way, and the way you should try first is to go into control panel, add or remove programs (something different in vista still to do with programs) and find it in the list.

It was fairly intuitive when I tried it.
 
Erm... I tried a different way. I went to Device Manager, clicked on the 5800 series and checked for updated drivers. I then went and and looked and it was still the old one. Went back to DM and uninstalled it and now my screen (fonts etc) has blown up and gone massive. When I go back to DM the 5800 is no longer there?

What the hell have I done?
 
Ok got the 5800 series back up in DM. Went to update driver it said I had latest version.
Went to manually find the version I had downloaded, found it and installed. But after all that it still lists it as 8.660.6.0.

What the hell is going on?

I know I may be stupid but I have never done this before. Why the hell is it not changing driver? chaparral you are right thats why it looks so big however CCC no longer gives me the option to change this. Infact, half the stuff that was in CCC seems to have dissapeared?

His drivers aren't out of date at all, look at the date of the drivers, those are correct for the 9.10's.

Hope this helps someone to help me this is soul destroying. Its enough to send me back to consoles forever. I wondered why I was getting slated for saying that PS3 has better graphics than an expensive PC. Its because mines F*"%ed!!!!!

Tried Mirror's Edeg again on lowest settings possible and still have all the same problems. Could this be the screen not able to cope and not the GPU?

No one has got back to ma and told me whether the new Furmark scores I posted are what the 5870 should be producing but it was a definate improvement on the original score. I spoke to a mate and his pc runs it fine and he has some £700 machine that he bought from PC World a year ago.

Really believe it is either my screen or a dud card tbh
