Hi folks,

So a little bit triggered by a garage refurb, but a little bit triggered by the news: https://www.materialfocus.org.uk/pr...on-cables-for-international-e-waste-day-2024/

How many cables should we keep on hand? I must have a gazillion Micro, Mini USB; original iPod connectors, etc. These are all "bin bin" as they are so ubiquitous -- then I have a handful of DVI, DVI-D, VGA cables etc.

Can anyone be my "accountability buddy" and join me in dumping all these things? I mean how likely is it I will need a DVI cable?

I tend to keep one of each type of rarely used cables.
Experience has taught me that within a couple of months of getting rid of something like that, I’ll be buying a new one.

depends what you're into i think, if you're into the retro side of computers then old cables can come in really handy.

But if you're rocking a Ryzen AM5 setup then i think its fairly safe to ditch the VGA and DVI cables.

I dabble in the retro side but should just sell/dump it all really as i kinda enjoy building the computers with old components but once built don't seem to have any real interest in using it so it's just taking up space realistically.

Lol so basically I emptied all my cable boxes out and ended up binning precisely 0 of anything. It just doesn't cause inconvenience and you aren't going to bin enough to make a difference as you'll always hold spare usb, ethernet, hdmi etc.
