old capri

You've shifted the goal posts... we were talking about top speed, now you've changed it to practical top speed :)

What we can all agree on is that a Capri won't do 160mph :o

Yup, totally. :p

Ah well, at least it gave me an excuse to do some maths. I initially didn't remember the equation correctly, so didn't think in the correct terms.

I'm trying to organise a trip to some friends who live in Fuengirola Spain who have a Black 1978 Capri 3.0 with only 27K on the clock. Its been sat in a garage since the early-mid 90s.

We are trying to work out the costs Vs the sale value of the car - and who is going to pay to get it to the UK.

H'ack-chewerally....

5-speed 2.8i Capris come with a 5th gear ratio of 0.825.

A Final Drive of 3.090.

7x15 rims

195/50/15 rubber.

For 160mph, your all-iron, naturally-aspirated 12v engine will need to be spinning at over 6,000rpm.

But that's with stock rubber, rims, diff and 'box.

If you're putting out 230bhp, you'll need a new diff and 'box.

So...Do you reckon your Capri had the best part of twenty grand spent on it?

I love you :p

I cant believe even you went through the hassle of working that out to win an argument

I think we can all agree 160 in a capri is a deathwish.

Anyone got this months Evo, is there a mention of one green brooklands capri in there?

Theres a capri in it, belonging to a Mr John Barker. 5.3L Rover V8 under the hood.....

260 or 320 bhp and over 300lb/ft of torque depending on how he tunes it aparantly.

Only 320 brake from a 5.3 RV8?

Crikey...For that output, I'd use a SBC or SBF. Less stressed and the SBF can be a right screamer.

Quickly reading through it appears hes limited on power by the standard 4.6 litre intake trumpets not letting enough air in, and the engine was used in an off road racer and has been tuned to give more torque...

i didnt say it "would do 160" i said i was told it should, thats totally different
i never even tried to get it there, all i know is it read 190 on the machine and he said good for 160 thats it, i cannot confirm that it could

My old 3.0 Ghia was a fun car, but over 120 indicated it became a worrying beast.
I cant imagine a capri that would feel stable above that.
