Old cars that keep on going

i see loads of escorts in birmingham, mostly mk5's and mk6's, thou theres a mk2 in my uni's car park most days.

my mk5 escort, never needed much doing to it, thou was leaking oil from somewhere, that is until someone crashed into it

I see loads of mk1 Clios around.

There's also still loads of 205's about, although I think they're more common to the open country than towns.

My old D plate 205 Diesel is still going at 250k  and my old F plate XS :)

Mark 2 golf's(not gti's bcause everybody kills them) I heard when the mark 2 was built they went over budget so you got more car for your money. I had a c-reg in immaculate condition, not one spot of rust. I eventually bought a mark-3 and have to say the mark -2 was way better. I never had to spend a penny on the mark-2 whereas the mark 3 cost me a small fortune. I sold the mark 2 to some chav on my estate and he sold it on to some other chavs, 2 or 3. I then bought it back and sold it to some other chav for a profit of course.(It was orange, gti big bumpers, skirts and arches, twin dtm stainless steel exhaust system, full gti interior out of late 16valve gti including doorcards, dashboard, steering wheel, basically the full inside of the car, rear gti window with spoiler type thingy, gti grill and lights, and some nice deep dish alloy wheels off a mark 1 golf gti) hey it was my first car, it was in fact a 1.3cl. Anyway after all these boy racers and chavs murdering the car around for a couple of month it was still going strong, It just wouldn't give up the ghost.........until somebody burnt it out.Mark 2 golfs , cheap, cheerful and bombproof :)

apart form fiesta mk3s i see mk1 clios everywhere still looking in decent condition

same with mk2 golfs , maybe i just notice them because theyre one of my fav cars though :)

My daily run-around is a 13 year old Citroen AX debut. 110k miles and not at all in good nick but the car just will not die!

My mate has a 1996 Accord coupe with over 450,000 miles on it - still purrs like a kitten on tickover.

I think the bigger problem with cars of this age and older is the crap steel that we flogged to the Japanese which they then sold back to us in our cars.

Most of them just rust rust rust.

only reason you see so many mk3 fiestas is that they made quite literally millions of the buggers

I would like to throw in my dads 309 diesel. It sounds like a tractor, its still on the original clutch at 200k. On the whole car there is one tiny bit of rust on the front grill which is from a stone chip. This thing will keep going for years yet and he is the type of person to run it until it dies.

It has even outlasted his Cavalier and is the same age.

and here I see novas everywhere, welcome to the ghetto of fife. :p

Yeah thats true - there's usualy some chav in a biscuit tin he calls a Nova with a sh**ty Calibra lump under the bonnet

Still could be worse - he could have bought a Rover :D

another vote for the cavalier. spacious, comfortable, cheap, economical (no matter how hard i thrashed my 1.6 it always returned ~37mpg combined), a monkey could fix it with a socket set and a hammer, and the best bit of all in a banger.... the 8v engines are belt-safe. cambelt goes, just whack another one on, time it up, drive away.

it's only flaw is that it's easier to take than a chavettes virginity

I wouldn't call Mk3 Fiestas old. They were made from what, 1990 to 1995? I see older cars all the time.

In that case, I see loads of 12 year old Rovers around. Someone must have done something right when producing those :p

That's Honda running gear so it's quite normal ;) :D

Still, if the shell is in good nick, then that's great. GTi's are very rare.
