so, I am looking to upgrade my old i7 -930 as im finally interested in a couple of games that it fails the can i run it test

that is where it gets tough

I dont have the finances to go new so I am looking at second hand markets, and now it gets murky as i have no idea what is better that what any more, so i google cpu comparrison charts ( seems reasonable)

i have seen a i7-3770 which has a passmarks score of 9,279 ( for £140 with motherbaord and 8gig ddr3 ram)

then on ebay there is a i5-4670k which is currently at £80 ( expect about 120-130?) that gets 7,635 passmarks, yeah ok, its an i5 nto i7, and a 670 v 770 can kind of understand why that is lower

but then there is also a i5-7600k that gets 9,113

so of those, that are all just in my budget, is the oldest one ( isnt the i7-3770 gen 3) really the fastest?

and is 7600 points to 9200 points really worth bothering about?

for reference my i7-930 ( which i see no slow down issues with, this is purely because some games min spec is higher now) gets 5,132

Then just to add more confusion, in the market here somebody is selling a ryzen 5 1600 which gets 12,286 points, and blows them all away ( but for sale is only the cpu so would need motherboard, memory, cooler etc)

HELP

i am thinking of getting the new COD when it comes out, which has a min spec of i5-2500K
i was looking at pubg which has a min spec of Core i5-4430

i dont own any games that wont run yet, but i am bored of all my old games and am looking for some new onces, hence looking at can you run it, because i know my cpu is gettign on a bit

graphics card wise, currently have a nvidia 670, but just bought a second hand amd rx580 ( came this morning) decided to go amd because i bought a 27" monitor that has freesync built in

* not sure if my motherbaord supports my new graphics card, if not ill haev to buy one anyway*

im at work at the moment, but ill check my motherbaord compatibility later, to see if it will support the zeon chips

budget wise, I dont want to go over £200

not sure if it makes much of an impact, but the new monitor is a 75hz refresh rate jobby

so far teh only game i have bought that it wouldnt run was black ops 4, but my laptop would ( that has a nvidia 870 in it)

just checked my motherboard, and it will support
X5550 - AT80602000771AA / BX80602X5550
X5550, 2.66 GHz, L3 8 MB, TDP 95 Watt, 0.045 micron F12 1.0

X5560 - AT80602000768AA / BX80602X5560
X5560, 2.8 GHz, L3 8 MB, TDP 95 Watt, 0.045 micron F12 1.0

X5570 - AT80602000765AA / BX80602X5570

I will have a look for one of them, I would imagine ebay is the best place?

It should be on the top left or bottonm left of the board. If you can't find it, install CPUZ and post a screen shot of the motherboard tab section. I should be able to tell the revision by the bios number. The rev 2 boards have different BIOS numbers than rev 1. My board is rev 1.

thanks mate

A couple things. Can I run it and passmark are garbage websites. They are at best misleading and at worst flat out wrong. I don't think any game won't run on an i7 930.

Secondly don't waste any money on old intel i5s/i7s. They are obscenely overpriced. However dropping in a hex xeon is fine cause how low the price is.

Thirdly, MW2019 hasn't had it's requirements released, nor has the game been independently benchmarked. Wait before buying based on predicted meaningless requirements.

I'd be saving up for a Ryzen upgrade, R5 1600 as a minimum.

i got the min spec from here
https://gamemaximus.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2019-system-requirements/
but there is no mention that i can see on the activision web site, so i guess ill wait

I have ordered an x5675 , was 12.99 so if that goes wrong and doesent work i havent lost anything, other than a bit of thermal paste putting my 930 back in.

AMD Power, thanks mate, some good advice there :)

i bought and installed(tonight) a xeon x5675

I havent overclocked it yet, the i7 930 benchmarked at 5111.5 with passmark, the xeon benchmarking at 8385

plan to play a bit with overclocking at the weekend

I did replace the stock cpu with a artic 7 pro, but I need to get some cpu paste because, i put the xeon in and it didnt work, so had to put the i7 back in and update the bios, which took most of the thermal paste off the new cooler

I wont overclock till i got some new thermal paste on.

passmark is reporting my cpu temp as 33 degrees (after pc has been on fro about 2 hours, but not really doing much)

what is a safe temperature these day?

well its a few years later, and im still using X5675 (never did overclock it though)

using an amd RX590. (12 gig memmory -- 6 x 2 gig triple channel sticks. SSD harddrive with op system etc

i do have an issue that when i shut down the pc,. some times it goes into a restart cycle for as much as 20 cycles, then kicks in

Gotten into VR now, so looking to improve the machine to make it more vr freindly (it will run some vr games but sometimes struggles)

what would you say is best bang for the buck at the moment. time for a complete new system or is there something i can change that will make a real difference?

yeah i was looking on ebay (doesnet seem to be anything in the buy sell on here at the moment) at a AMD Ryzen 5 5500 + Asrock A320M-HDV R4.0 Motherboard + 8GB DDR4 RAM Bundle but i think that was a new bundle ( think it was 270) again doesnet seem to be much on the used market that woudl be an upgrade

I have just ( because im thinking of upgrading now) had a play in bios, bios said id overclocked to 3.75 but windows is still reporting 3.07 (im guessing it didnt like my OC so it has reverted to a safe config)

I am thinking though, probably look for a decent upgrade and then give this set up to my son ( he is on an old I3 i think)

I assume just getting a newer G.card wont really make any difference to my set up?

There are loads of things that will be an upgrade - anything newer than an 8th gen I5 (e.g. 8600K) is still a huge amount faster IPC wise than your 11 year old Xeon. A Ryzen 3600X (or 3700X) would be an ideal upgrade - almost twice the single core performance of your Xeon, and almost 3 times faster for multithreaded workloads.

To show how much things have moved on though, the 5500 you mentioned has over twice the single thread performance of your Xeon, whilst using less power, and only being ~500Mhz faster.

It will make some difference, but anything significantly faster will be bottlenecked by your current processor.

As already mentioned, a newer processor will in all likelihood release some performance from your existing graphics card (whether that just be increasing the minimum and average frame rates and so making things seem smoother)

He already has access, so just a matter of popping up a Wanted ad to see what's out there :)
Thanks Armageus that link is very useful :) i was looking at a list style chart and searching for the cpus i was looking at

on ebay there is a :- Upgrade Kit Bundle Kit Ryzen 5 5500 6x 4.2 Ghz Turbo/MSI B450M/16 GB PC3000 235 euros (about £204 plus £postage) from germany

seems a good price compared to getting the components individually, or am i missing something ( known bad motherboard or soemthing)

yeah i think i'll keep an eye on things.

the motherboard in that bundle is Mainboard AM4 MSI A520M-A Pro Max

£204 from germany so I think customs would be an extra 20% so so more like £245 plus deliery
