Well if i remember right the MHz speed of the 1800 is 1.53GHz? That alone along with the cache size increase makes the 1800 a better by far cpu.

It depends on whether you want to overclock the processor IMO.

The XP will obviously be faster at stock speeds but the applebred can overclock way futher, especially if it's a t'bred b core - these can clock to 2.4-2.5GHz sometimes whereas the pally would probably top out at around 1800MHz max. Also there is a chance that the lost l2 cache on the applebred could be re-enabled to 256kb as most of these chips were downgraded tbred xp cores.

The applebred would also run much cooler thanks to it's lower default vcore of 1.5-1.6v depending on if its a dlt3c or dut3c.

Were there any 1800 T'bred B's?

Try CPU-z to see if it's a T'bred B as this will clock easily to 2GHz with stock volts!

Very nice free upgrade and will stomp on the Duron.

There were 1700+, 1800+, 2000+, 2100+, 2400+, 2600+ T'bred B's that ran on the 133MHz FSB, 266DDR iirc.

The applbred duron's were really sweet lil chips. I bought a 1600 ( applebreds actually run at quoted speeds not PR rated ) and oc'd it to 2.4 on air ran wicked fast for a £30 cpu.

He's already said the 1800 is a palomino core (the rubbish one before the thoroughbred).

Palomino cores were shockingly bad overclockers...

IIRC, the Applebred is a cut-down version of the T'bred B core which means it will overclock like a trooper. The best versions of those cores would do 2.4GHz on stock volts and at a guess, the Applebred should be comparable.

Still, it's only working with 128kb of L2 cache and so it will have a bit of ground to make up, but as an overclocker it should do the business.

I have just unlocked the multie on both cpu's but my crappy motherboard (ECS K7VMM+) will not allow me to adjust anything regarding the cpu.

So I ran Super Pi 1M test on both cpus with same HSF and there was only a matter of seconds in it

Duron 1400mhz 2:26 @ 35oC
Athlon 1530mhz 2:20 @ 37oC

If i can find a cheep motherboard that will allow me to clock these two then i will but at the moment funds are too tight as i have just lost my job :(

Im going to stick with the XP1800 as its a few seconds faster but it dosent realy matter that much i only have to wait till after xmas an i will be getting a new system anyway (I Hope).
