Hey guys,

I’m trying to install Windows on a 300 GB Maxtor (March 06) that I’ve been using as a backup drive on my main build, onto a new machine.

I tried formatting the new drive during the Windows installation and I get this error:

I’ve tried twice now, and I think the process fails after about 70%, I can’t be totally sure though; I tend not to watch hard drives formatting :p

I’m now trying to format in Windows on my main machine – to see if that makes any difference?

Any ideas why this should be happening though, it‘s been a fine drive until now? In use right up until I copied it’s contents over to my new disks…

Cheers,

SW.

Did you delete all the existing partitions on the disk during the install or are you formatting and existing one?

Have you done a full surface scan using Maxtor's own diagnostic tools?

Any joy with the format in the working machine?

Hmm, it formated fine on the working machine?

I'm now thinking it may be the IDE cable - I did'nt use the new ones that came with the mobo, just some old ones I found lying around :D

I'll keep you posted...

SW.
