Old DS214+

The wife wanted some more backup drives so I got this old DS214+ out of the loft for her but the transfer speeds I am seeing are nothing like what they used to be.

I have attached it to my flint 2 on ports 4&5 but I am only seeing speeds of around 30/33MBs when I used to get anything between 90/110MBs. The units got 2 WD red drives which are running perfectly fine, it's just this slow speed that's annoying. All Ethernet ports on the NAS and flint 2 seem to be working as stated.

The system I am using at the moment that I'm transferring files for her

Windows 11 Pro
9950X3D
64.0 GB RAM
MSI X870E Tomahawk
Samsung 1TB 990 Pro

Would it be better to buy a USB 3.0 to Dual Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter just that I have never used one of these USB Ethernet adapters before.

I have attached it to my flint 2 on ports 4&5

Try just a single cable from the NAS to the Router. A single cable will still achieve ~100MB/s, and far less to go wrong

Tried it mate still only getting between 30/33 finding it really strange. Looked in the flint and it all seems fine just don't understand the really slow speeds. Cables are fine as well 2 cat5e tried them on the flint to pc and no problems at all.

Could it be affected by Microsoft disabling SMBv1 I had to enable it again because the NAS wasn't being detected in windows 11.

I had similar and I'm sure it was when something like compression, or encryption, were enabled on the NAS.

Look at whatever page shows you the CPU, memory etc. graphs, what ones get pegged when you write to it? If you just set it up then it might still be building the array.

If it's not rebuilding or antivirus or anything else obvious, try using a different protocol rather than SMB.

FTP should still get maximum transfer rates and will rule out anything network related.

When transfering all I was doing was mapping the drive in windows and copying files over to that drive. The drive wouldn't map without me re-enabling SMBv1 because Microsoft disabled it.

I tried FTP was running 1 upload and was getting 16.2MB so tried 2 files it maxed out at guess what 32MB, tried 3 files and again all maxed out at 10/11MB each.
